Anyone in Manhattan? I need some travel advice

I will be going to NYC for New Years Eve and will have my younger sister along with me who is not yet 21. Can you tell me any good blues/jazz/ style spots that I could attend that she would be allowed to get into as well?
Also we will be taking the Amtrak that will put us into Penn Station. We are staying at the Dumont Plaza Suites...if you know of this place can you tell me about how far it is from Penn Station?
Last question...all of us want to dine at a VERY nice restaurant. I was thinking Tavern on the Green? Do you recommend this or somewhere else? I am thinking $100 a person no drinks included type of establishment. Thanks!

Depends on how old your sister is. In a sit-down, waitress-served establishment (which most good jazz clubs are), chances are nobody is going to look twice at your sister. As long as she looks 19 or older, the waitress is going to be more intersted in making a buck than enforcing the law. Especially if there's a minimum (which there is likely to be). On the other hand, if your sister is drinking cokes, it probably wouldn't matter how old she is.

Chanterelle on Hudson Street in Lower Manhattan. There isn't a better place for the money.

She is 20. Won't be 21 until January 20th.....20 days too late. She looks pretty much her age but I'd hate to get her carded at the door and turned away over and over again.

Dumont Plaza Suite Hotel
150 E 34th St
New York, NY 10016

You'll want to take a cab. Go to the West (8th Ave) side of the station, where it is less crowded, to get one.
Clubs I don't know. Restaurants I know. What kind of cuisine?

VERY nice restaurant Food? or Atmosphere??
Meat, Fish, or Italian?
Many times the swarmy expensive joints give you fancy fixins' of tiny portions amongst crystal surroundings with waiters with their hands out all the time; that truly suck;
other times a place like Chris Chella's (East mid 40's) will give you a spectacular steak in so-so surroundings.

Tavern on the Green is physically beautiful but the food is not the best. I'd recommend Union Square Cafe (new American) or Nobu (Japanese fusion) for great food.
The best jazz club in New York is the Village Vanguard. You'd have to call them to see if they let under-21s in. Other good jazz clubs are Irridium, Jazz Standard and Birdland. Blue Note often has top bands, but it's the priciest of the jazz clubs and the food stinks. BB King's is probably the best blues club.
For any club, you want to call (or check their website) to see if they admit under-21s and to find out who's playing New Year's Eve. (BTW, if you're going to be in town for more than one night, any night club will be half the price if you go on December 30 or January 1 instead of New Year's Eve. You could hang out in Times Square for nothing and hear music the next night.)

Ahh good question. I'm thinking more along the lines of traditional American fare....steaks, seafood, etc.
Unless you can name a killer Sushi place as well...there is always lunch to do.

You are staying on 34th street - but you are on the East side which is nicer. There are alot of stores there to shop and Macys is a few blocks away. Because she is young she might prefer BB Kings because its trendy.

Tavern on the Green is beautiful and at night is gorgeous but it is pretty far from your hotel so you will have to cab it. It is worth the price and believe me it is pretty pricy but for a Christmas holiday GO FOR IT!!
