News briefs Fico: We had university while US overrun by buffalo, Indians

From press reports of TASR and SITA

ROBERT Fico, leader of the non-parliamentary Smer party, wrapped up his campaign ahead of weekend elections by saying he saw Slovakia's main business opportunities lying to the east, in Russia and China, even if Slovakia became a member of Nato and the European Union.

Calling again for a 'strong hand and a strong government' in Slovakia, Fico continued his campaign line verging on defiance against the West.

During a September 17 rally in central Slovakia's Banská Bystrica, Fico accused the West of hypocrisy in its policy towards China, and said that "at the time when buffalo and Indians covered the American continent, we already had a university here in Slovakia."

Fico, a leftist politician with strong populist and authoritarian undertones, is given a major chance of being in government after the September 20-21 vote, and has said he wants to be prime minister.

Still a lot of communists running around Slovakia,

Of course "at a time when ration coupons and waiting lines for sugar covered the Slovakian country, we had already put a man on the moon here in the USA."

Good point.

Also, what do our Native Americans think of this "slam" at them?

BTW, what percent of the Slovak population were able to even read, or hold the jobs they wanted, or live where and how they wanted when they had that university?

And at one time when Slopokeans were still pooing in the woods, they had both a university and a great library at Alexandria in Egypt.

Anyone got the latest count on the number of illegal aliens in Egypt these days?

Or in Slopokea? Slowhatwasitagain?

"at the time when buffalo and Indians covered the American continent, we already had a university here in Slovakia."

And within 15 years after becoming a country we had our first university...how long did it take them?

And within 15 years after becoming a country we had our first university

Actually, Harvard was founded in 1636.

And it appears that their Trnava University was founded in 1635. So they were a year ahead of us.....

As I recall, the Slovak leaders who broke up Czechoslovakia were old-line Communists. At least things have progressed to the point where these would-be Stalinists are an out-of-power minority.

Mea culpa. Yours is an even better illustration of my point. U of Penn claims (I THINK) to be the 1st University in the US--probably mean 1st one after 1776?

Yes, but so what? We had just arrived here and they'd been on their turf for how long?

Ah, don't you love how accademics hide behind their "knowledge" like apes hidding behind branches.

You have the right to remain silent

You have the right not to read what you believe is evil philosophical proselytist bull

You have the right to be ignorant about certain matters.

Yes, I'd rather have America run by free buffalo indians than by leftist accademic knowledge perverting and raping apes.

I think the conflict is that Harvard was founded as a college in 1636, but didn't attain the status of a University (a collection of colleges) until much later.

I did a little research on www.harvard.edu and found that Harvard graduated from a college to a university in 1797.
