Approximately 100 heads of state are expected to attend the 10-day World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg South Africa. The U.N. sponsored confab will focus on the three so-called pillars of sustainable development, which are poverty alleviation, social progress, and the protection of the environment. These three critical areas of concern, areas that cry out for genuine freedom oriented solutions, will instead be addressed with the usual communistic recommendations of totalitarian programs backed by international force.
Communists have historically embedded themselves into genuinely progressive movements. In the early twentieth century, for example, communists infiltrated the labor movement, a movement born out of the right to free association, in order to exploit workers as cannon fodder in their war against private ownership. Communists would later exploit the largely conservative and Christian civil rights movement, a movement that sought genuine opportunity for people of African ancestry, by further dividing people based on race, institutionalizing an economic underclass with state sponsored welfare, and fanning the flames of race conflict which led to the rioting that destroyed American Black neighborhoods in the 1960's.
Communists are responsible for most of the dire poverty, starvation and misery in the world today yet the U.N. Summit will suggest a further perpetuation of the suffering by seeking to transfer the hard earned capital of the free world into the bank accounts of oppressive third world communist dictators. Instead of handing over billions to corrupt leftist dictatorships, the U.N. could use its moral capital to influence third world governments to allow banks to invest, with low interest loans, in small business ventures. Corporations could be encouraged to set up shop under mutually agreed upon conditions and private ownership of property could be fostered. The U.N. could use its considerable influence to encourage free elections and the development of constitutional republics.
The second pillar of sustainable development, "social progress," is nothing more than a euphemism for abortion, birth control, gay rights, and other jewels in the humanist/leftist crown. The obstacle to "social progress," for the communists at the summit, is religiously based traditional societies and absolute codes of morality. Social progress means UN meddling, preferably by forceful means, in the sovereign affairs of traditional cultures and nations. Social progress equals social control by the internationalist authoritarian minded left.
For the third pillar of sustainable development, protection of the environment, America offers the best model. The exemplary American record is born out of respect for private property and, inherent in that respect, a natural desire by Americans to maintain clean water, clean air, and other environmental considerations. Americans instinctively understand that when the environment deteriorates, property values drop and the quality of life declines in a given area. An example of a communist model of environmental protection, on the other hand, would be the former Soviet Union where tracts of land bigger than Massachusetts are so polluted that they are uninhabitable and whole seas have been sucked dry. Rather than the development of private property, and the fostering of self-interest, a proven system of environmental protection, the Johannesburg Summiteers seek outright control of the earth.
The problem with the U.N. approach to sustainable development is systemic and is easily detectable in its communist founding. From its founding secretary general, Alger Hiss, to the present day, the U.N. is based on communist principles of total one world control with all rights emanating from its earthly authority backed by the force of arms. The U.N. has sought to stamp out freedom solutions to world problems by supporting communist regimes, encouraging an agenda of social control that would have made Hitler blush, and stealthfully trying to implement world government by eroding national sovereignty and the G-d given natural rights of man.
