Roads wind through a portion of forest near Eureka that had been clear-cut by Pacific Lumber Co.
Environmentalists charge that Gov. Davis' role in the makeup of a water board led to decisions that benefited Pacific Lumber.
EUREKA -- There's been a joke among staff members on the state board responsible for protecting this rugged reach of California's water, and it couldn't be less flattering to Gov. Gray Davis.

Let's see... Let me count the ways... 1. They don't have to put kids through school and college; 2. They don't have to pay child support; 3. They don't have to entertain members of the opposite sex very much to get layed; 4. They don't have to pay for weddings; They don't have to pay lawyers for a divorce; 5. They don't have to lose everything to their supposed former spouses if their relationship dies; 6. Speaking of dying, they don't waste money on life insurance to protect their "families"... yada, yada, yada...
