'He was hunting for a place to kill them and bury them'

Authorities remove the body of Roy Ratliff near Lake Isabella, California, on Thursday.

LANCASTER, California (CNN) -- The man who abducted two teenage girls at gunpoint early Thursday was "hunting for a place to kill them" in a remote desert spot about 100 miles away when two deputies located him and fatally shot him, authorities said.

I thought it remarkable that CNN (I cannot believe I am actually posting something from that source) has not deleted these words of the sheriff:

We don't have to worry about him being rehabilitated," Sparks said of Ratliff. "We don't have to worry about the Supreme Court. He is deceased."

Consider also this:

The girls had been in separate vehicles with male friends at a popular "lovers' lane" in Los Angeles County when they were kidnapped at gunpoint shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, police said.

What are these minors doing outside the house at this time of the night? When will we start persecuting parents for negligence?

Yes, you hi-lited the same quote I wanted to emphasize. I'll say it anyway, since it bears repeating:

"We don't have to worry about him being rehabilitated," Sparks said of Ratliff. "We don't have to worry about the Supreme Court. He is deceased.""

Aw, come on, weren't you ever a teen? Teens date are known to break curfews (especially in the summer when school is out) and there is very little parents can do!

You know, I had excellent parents, who didn't allow us out after 11 pm, ever, and that was only for special occasions. That didn't stop us from finding a way to sneak out in the middle of the night on a couple of occasions, though. Teens are resourceful.

"The deputy on the driver's side looked in, the suspect was coming back up with the gun and [the deputy] shot him twice in the head. And shot him until he stopped." "

Good work by those deputies!

Pin a medal on them, they placed their own lives in danger to save the girls!

There is NOTHING good that can happen to a 16 year old girl out, unsupervised at 1:00 am.

I wish someone would have said that to my parents! At 16 years old, if I decided I was going to stay out until past 2am some night, it would have happened 1 time. After that, punishment would have happened.

Sorry but I have the same question, where were Mom and Dad while their 16 year old is out on a date until after 2am?

No--rather there is very little society allows parents to do these days.

In the old days, people and cops would question kids out that late alone, even contacting the kid's parents.

But try that now, and the ACLU will scream harassment.

Spank your kid, and you might land in jail.

If you are very strict with your kids, you might also be accused of child abuse.

Heck, so little power have parents these days, that in some states the government can help a teenage girl get an abortion without the parents knowledge; after all, "they're only parents and prone to getting emotional over their kids--and what do parents know anyway."

It's possible that the teens snuck out after the parents went to bed. Or, has it been reported otherwise? I am not sure.

I snuck out a few times when I was a teen and I never got caught. It was real easy to open up my bedroom window and hop out at midnight, giving my parents a good hour or two to fall asleep. Of course, if I did get caught, I probably would of been in deep s#$%.

"Teenage," did I say "teenage"?

Now that I think on it, I wouldn't be surprised if those states would even help pre-teens get abortions without their parents knowledge.

Yeah- let's blame the parents for this....
are you saying they are partially responsible for the dead SOB doing what he did to their daughters?

I'm reallt glad this guy is dead.

One would hope the authorities drained enough blood from his corpse to do the AIDS testing, etc.

The commies have done a good job of undermining the authority of parents over their children--afer all, breaking up the traditional American family is one of their tactics.

Damn, dont you just love happy endings? The perp is hopefully being raped in hell as we speak! This is the coolest thing I have heard from law enforcemnt in ages...This cop is voicing their obvious frustration with the revolving door of our justice system. Our criminals andd rapists spend about as much time in jail as Palestinian terrorists!

I was concerned about std's for these victims as well...bad enough to get raped by the bastard, even worse to carry some friggin virus for the rest of their lives.

Parents have a responsibility to keep their kids from risky behavior--that a certain activity might be risky because predators are loose in the world, is another issue.

Ideally, it would be nice if I could walk down any alley in America with $50 bills hanging out of my pocket; but in the real world, I'd be taking a big risk.
