Fresno, CA's "Support Our Troops" Rally 7-26-02
7/26/02

Posted on 07/26/2002 11:55:04 PM PDT by mtngrl@vrwc

What a fun time we had at tonight's "Support Our Troops" rally in Fresno, CA! First of all I want to mention that we outnumbered the other side tonight - there were fifteen of us patriots/FReepers and eleven peaceniks who attended. Freepers who were able to make it to tonight's FReep were:

No sooner do we park our cars and head towards the corner with our signs under our arm than people start honking their support of what we stand for. As usual, we listened to music on Jim's boombox tonight and held up our signs asking for those driving by to honk to show support for our troops. Fresnans (for the most part) love and appreciate our troops and President Bush.

One interesting thing that happened at tonight's rally was that I was standing on the corner of Freeper Island and this pedestrian stood next to me waiting to cross the street (heading towards the peaceniks). He put his hand out to cover the side of my sign that says "HONK if you support our troops and President Bush" and said that he sure wished he could keep people from seeing that sign. I replied that it was sure nice that in this great country of ours people had the right to have differing opinions. He agreed but said that he sure wished he could change my mind and I answered that I would like to change his mind too. He muttered something about how we were supporting the wrong things and he wished we would realize that. Then he crossed the street and joined the peaceniks. The sign he held said something like "Terrorism causes terrorism". Figures.

Ladyinred made a neat new sign out of red and blue sequins that says "September 11 - Never Forget, Keep Rolling". Her husband, Chadsworth, made an ingenious sign that said "Support our troops, Support those protecting America." If someone didn't honk, there was a little flap that he could flip over that said "Horn repair $2.00, Honk lessons N/C". Those two add so much to our FReeps!

After the FReep, most of us met at Outback Steakhouse for dinner to show them that we appreciate their sending steaks (and cooks) over to our troops in Afghanistan. The food there is just fabulous! That has just got to be the very best steak I have ever eaten! We enjoyed cooling off after being outside in the 100 degree heat and also enjoyed each other's company. We are a fun group!

To those FReepers who were not able to make it to tonight's rally, we missed you! We hope to see you again next week! To those who were able to make it tonight, Thanks!

I didn't get pictures of everyone who attended tonight's FReep and for that I apologize. I hope that someone else got pictures of the people I missed.

Here's Sheila:

How Chadsworth changed his sign if someone didn't honk!

And me (Mtngrl@vrwc). Isn't this a neat shirt that I was sent by a dear FReeper friend who picked it up for me at Kennebunkport?

Good job y'all.... My only wish is that you all might meet someplace cheaper afterwards...not everyone can afford Tony Roma's and Outback.. 2 of the most expensive places in town.

Woohoo! Sounds like a great FREEP! Neat new sign by Chadsworth, neat 43 shirt for you, great people, good that honking for support started up immediately.

The one who wanted you to not show the sign to support President Bush - and our troops - well, what can you say? You said the best thing that could be said - we have the freedom to do what you were doing...and at the same time for them to do what they were doing.

BUT - the fact that that one person wanted to COVER UP your sign - if they could have done so, I am sure they would have - tells volumes about the "other side". While you all are gracious, open, and upbeat, they want to SILENCE YOU, AND KEEP YOUR WORDS FROM BEING SEEN!

That is typical of the leftists, socialists, communists.

They canot tolerate the truth - but the nature of the evil they manifest is such that they cannot just "live and let live" as they are demanding at all times that WE do of all their many crimes and perversions - they MUST SHUT US UP!!!

Every totalitarian government has had this DEMAND = oppression = against its own citizens.

And, it is, indeed, for the right to NOT BE SO OPPRESSED that our soldiers are fighting and dying and you guys are FREEPING!

Well Done!!!! And thanks to all of you!

Sorry if the reason you did not join us was the cost. Most of the time we eat at Lyon's, Baker's Square, DiCicco's or Applebee's. It was a treat to enjoy a great steak for a change instead of Breakfast or a sandwich.
Maybe you can join us next week.

The Horn Broke sign is brilliant! I can always look to your group of FReepers for motivation, ideas, and encouragement. Great job!

We will be at them again today here in Colorado. Our troops like the photos.

How about a group photo of you guys and gals for us to see next week?

All the Best.

Really !! The very best huh? WELL OK- hmmmm!

It is certainly a great place to eat.

Well Mtngrl - another great job on the reporting.

What a great group we have, doing our patriotic thing. We do get an overwhelming response compared to the CREEP CORNER. I have found that the support is not always indicated until a little coaxing is put forth - if these "quiet ones" would come out of their shell, across this great country, what a difference it could make.

GREAT JOB, FRESNO!!

Chadsworth, ladyinred is going to HAVE to stop letting you out by yourself!!
Your brain starts thinking up all kinds of mischief!
Jolly good show, old chap!

I was a little late getting there.
I held up my sign for a couple of hours, but there's not a lot of cars on the street at two in the morning, so I came back home.
(sniff, sniff)
