what if the family put her into hiding because of pregnancy.

Is there a chance the family would want to protect their social standing to the point where they would do that and then claim kidnapping to have a reason why she was gone for so long??

If Ricci is charged with stealing from the Smart home he will face theft charges and not burglary charges. This was talked about on Greta's show last night. The way I understand it is he had permission to be in the home at the time he took items from the home... this is considered a theft charge. Now he may face theft or burglary charges on the other homes in the neighborhood depending on if he was working in the homes or not at the time things were stolen from each of these homes. If items were taken from the homes while he had access to the inside of the homes, again it is theft and not burglary. (Burglary = Breaking and Entering) This is pretty much how they explained it on Greta's Show.

Also... I do not think the Smart family can do anything about the charges pending against Ricci in the theft of their home by him. It is a state issue and the Smarts probably could not stop the state from charging him even if they wanted to.

I doubt it. If that were the case, then they would have to have coached Mary on what to tell the police. It doesn't matter how good a 'coach' you are, a nine year old is not going to fool professional interrogators. Those people are experts at catching false statements, even from pathological liars. They can read people like books.

I think you are like the rest of us ... wishing for ANYTHING that would mean Elizabeth is still alive. However, I don't think her parents would do something like that. Contrary to how I feel about the Danielle Van Dam case, I don't feel the Smart parents have any complicity in the disappearance of their daughter at all.

I think you are right, I want to hear that baby girl (even as a teen, she is someone's baby girl), is home safe.

My babies were gone for 3 weeks, I didn't know if they were alive or not. I feel for this family, but if this was a possibility, at least that would mean she was alive.

Now I've gone and made myself cry for her again. Wish there could be closure for the Smart's.

That's okay ... cry. It's probably tears you held back before when you had your own troubles.

One time I learned that when we over react to something, we are to ask ourselves: "What does that say about ME?" Each of us has our own reason as to why we are so obessessed with Angelic Elizabath. There have been some scabs opened up. Hopefully, in those cases, the healing will begin.

And when this is all over, I hope people will remember to pray for the Smart Family. Their wounds will be raw for a LONG time.

My 7 YO takes great pleasure in praying for so many people. One she prays for every night is Elizabeth. I just pray it is over soon. It hurts so much to see pictures of these children who are going or have gone through a personal hell.

I try not to think about the mistreatment she may have or may be suffering, but I remember when my kids were gone, that was something that took over my brain several times a day. Thank you for your post. It sure helps to put things into perspective.

They only would have needed to wait 2-3 more days until her school year was finished. Then it would have been easy to say she was going away for the summer, somewhere distant like Europe, to study the harp with some other teacher, or something like that. Would have brought virtually no scrutiny or disruption to the family.
