Has anyone suggested that wild fires are terrorist acts?
VANITY ALERT
Posted on 06/26/2002 8:05:16 AM PDT by 1Old Pro
I understand that wild fires are basically caused by lack of forest management techniques now prohibited by the Leftist environmental wackos.
So now that our forests are ticking time bombs waiting for a match to drop, could they be being set by terrorists of some kind?
The fires destroy communities, property, and lives. They disrupt our way of life. They necessitate massive reassignment of fire and safety crews to focus on the "site".
We need to protect ourselves from this possibility. We need Congress to pass forest management legislation which will allow for roads, logging, and other techniques designed to prevent massive fires.
Controlled burns could be used for management purposes more easily then. And let's not forget the amount of wood product destroyed by this fires....less supply and lumber costs continue to rise. (tinfoil on)

There have been no indications so far that these fires were set by terrorists.... But it's easy to imagine ways that evil folks could set whole states and regions ablaze... very low-tech ways... Islam is peace, hardy-har-har

Travis McGee, others and myself have talked about it a number of times here on FR.
In fact, in Volume Two of my series of books about a coming third world war, (Volume II available in July) a huge firestorm is intentionally set on a 200 mile front by terrorists with the idea of taking out certain towns, facilities and a lot of campers.

What evil men can imagine that evil can men do.

It wouldn't be wise to prop up that theory at the moment. Any further terrorist attack on US soil will only further erode consumer confidence in America. And that will lead to further erosion of the US markets. And that will lead to further erosion of the US dollar. And that will lead to the world economic community viewing the US in a weakened light. It's for the benefit of all here to refrain from speculating that a series of train wrecks, a series of forest fires, or a random plane crash are "Terrorism" if at all possible. The patriotic thing to do during this time is to hold back from "sky is falling" theories... or the sky really will start falling.

Yours is the "Nothing to see here, move along" philosophy.

In Israel, a few years ago, there were several attempts by jihadists to burn down the JNF(Jewish National Forest). The jihadists were thwarted there. It may be that these fires are due to terrorism, jihadist and envirowhackos.

In
the books, methodologies are presented and implemented to thwart such ... and it is done by removing restrictions on arming the populace almost completely.
When citizens by and large are armed, the interdict crime and terror as it happens, not after the fact.
911 IMHO should have taught us to leave behind the "ignore it and it will go away", or the "we are untouchable", or "lets not talk about it and upset the applecart" philosophies.
Now, let's get it out on the table and prepare for it ... and then place our faith and trust where the people who founded this nation placed it ... despite whatever other shortcomings and failings they may have had.
Just my opinion.
FRegards.

Actually, I have been wondering why they have not yet tried this. Given the dry West, and all the fuel available, and all our firefighting resources are barely able to stop one fire, this seems like a way to really shake things up.
All you would need is a few dozen Muslim losers, road maps, car rentals, and about $10 worth of Bic lighters. If three dozen fires were to start all over the West, from Tader-ho to Arid-zona, from California to Wyoming, there is no way we could stop them.
The scary part is what would the gov't do? Outlaw matches? Federal screeners at every trailhead in America? Comprehensive searches of every car going through a fire-danger zone? They would have to do something, but what would they do? No doubt, GWB would wax on about the beauty of Islam, have a Muslim prayer breakfast in the WH, as the fires raged on, allow more young men from the Arab world to run around unchecked, and repeal more of the Bill of Rights for citizens. I would not want to be found in a National Forest without some sort of comprehensive gov't permit, detailing everything I am allowed in my backpack, and detailing my itinerary down to the nearest 15 minutes, or Mrsmith (FReeper), Ashcroft, and GWB would label me a "combatant" and it's off to XRAY for me.
The last push to tighten America's grip on security ruined what was a great career for me. This would ruin my favorite hobby.

America needs to project a strong image to the global community right now. It does not help the cause for residents of America to look behind every corner for a boogey man. I cannot stress to you enough the dangers of spreading theories that are difficult to prove and will only serve to "psych-out" more Americans. When people are scared they refrain from spending... and that is not what America needs right now.

Scary thought isn't it.

When people are scared they refrain from spending... In a nation with pitiful savings rates this might not be all bad. Perhaps people could actually save for retirement instead of expecting higher and higher taxes and redistribution to finance their golden years. And that's just one example.
