Just because Opera users (like me) use as little M$ software as we can, does not mean the exploit gang aren't looking at us too.
If you are using Opera 6.01 or 02, look at the source URL or at
GreyMagic Security Advisory GM#001-OP
As a long-time Opera user myself, it surprises me not in the least that the Opera folks fixed that security hole in record time.
I'm curious, though, how you learned about it. Do you subscribe to their e-mail notices?
I seem to get a blurb from them only when a major version release is announced.
The moral is, update your antivirus data files at least weekly, as well as taking care of this one if you use Opera. It's a pain, but I run my full AV program daily on this computer, because the kids seem to keep picking up viruses from their friends.
I saw the security hole info at the Langa List (www.langa.com) which is one of the best PC users newsletters out there.
I set up a neighbor's machine for DSL a few months ago, recommened that she buy Kaspersky AVP (the Corday-recommended virus scanner) and unthinkingly set it up to update monthly.
Big mistake.
She got Klez about 4 days before Kaspersky had an update. I would never have heard about it if she hadn't mentioned in passing that "hey Char, I don't see that virus splash screen when the PC boots anymore..."
Fortunately she was using Eudora so she did not become a transmitter.
Yeah, same goes for windoze, microshaft, etc...yawn...
