Freeper needs information. Where should I move?
Posted on 04/25/2002 9:05:15 AM PDT by Calculus_of_Consent
Help! I have got to move to another town to escape a psychotic ex-wife. I was given sole custody of my children, but this embittered woman is making our lives a living hell. The only way out that I can see is to move. I just dont know where I should move.
I would like to get some feedback from Freepers about good locations around the country. Please let me know about your area. What is the quality of life like? What are the economic conditions? Are the schools good? And most importantly are all the custody laws stacked against the father?

I wouldn't suggest New York State. Democratic, High unemployment, Lots of Rhinos and - oh - and a crusty pantsuit.

What do you do for a living?

If you really have the flexibility to go anywhere, I'd suggest Arizona. There's a lot of America to see in that state and a continuing flavor of the old west in some parts. Plus it's not packed with liberal nuts like my state.

You probably should stay close to your kids and do what you can to protect them from your ex-wife (whom you loved once.)
The kids did not ask for a divorce.

Virginia is quite excellent. Northwest Florida is even better (no income tax), unless you need a high-tech job (which you won't find there).
Best wishes,
:) ttt

Sorry I mis-read your post. I retract my statements.

Certainly NOT Santa Cruz County CA. Highest housing cost in the country;
too many homeless, illegals; socialist govt.; lousy schools; gridlock traffic.
Why do I stay here? Got property back when it was still reasonable.
Would NEVER move here now. Although, it IS beautiful!!

I have a degree in Economics; I have worked in sales and management. I would prefer sales.

Northern Virginia. The courts will side with your precedent. Rent is relatively cheap, many jobs in DC (depending on what you do for a living). Not a great place for blue-collar types (if that's what you are, try the Houston TX area).

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma would be my reccomendation. The good thing about sales is you can really live almost anywhere.

Ok NY is off my list. Should I cross off the entire state or just NYC?

I second AZ. I have lived here for 20 years. I got custody of my child, so the laws must not be stacked against me too badly.
They're good on helping you collect child support, too, if you push them.
One more advantage: We're clear across the country.
It also gets warm in the summer. It makes coming out for summer break less desirable.

How about a place with a 14% flat tax and where homosexuality is punishable by death? Russia.

i like VA. i would not suggest, No.VA because the cost of living is so high here, but other parts of the state are beautiful, it is pretty conservative, and generally doing ok, economically, i think.

Don't know where to tell you, but when you decide, don't post it here on a public forum. ;-)
Good luck!

The entire state. Rents are sky high even in the state. House prices are out of control. Weather sucks. Too humid in summer and damp and cold in winter. I have an offer to maybe go work in Las Vegas. I am seriously thinking about moving out there if the offer goes thru.
