U.S. Cardinal in Secret Vatican Talks

A cardinal at the centre of child sex abuse scandals rocking the Catholic Church in the United States said he won the backing of Pope John Paul II to remain on in his post in secret talks at the Vatican this week.

Cardinal Bernard Law, the Archbishop of Boston, said in a statement released by the Vatican on Wednesday that he had travelled to Rome to "seek counsel and advice" from the ponriff.

He said he had been "graciously received" by John Paul II, and would not be stepping down.

"As a result of my stay in Rome, I return home encouraged in my efforts to provide the strongest possible leadership in ensuring, as far as is humanly possible, that no child is ever abused again by a priest of this Archdiocese."

He said he had been "graciously received" by John Paul II, and would not be stepping down.

Let me see if I get this straight. A priest, commits a felony and because of his faith, he doesn't face criminal charges. His boss, then actively working to cover the child molester's actions, moves him from one parish, to another. This is known as 'aiding and abeiting criminal activity', also is covered by Rico statutes, if I'm not mistaken. Then, when the Pope hears of this outrage, this obscene violation of the santity of the sacred covenant between man and God; nothing is done??!?!? Why not institute a new sacriment of molesting every child at church? After all, if the Pope's okay with it ... why should us mere mortals be offended?

No clue what the thinking is here. The article focuses on Law's euphemistic spin on this. So far everyone has been rather tightlipped about what will be discussed at the summit meeting in Rome on teenophilia and homosexual abuse in the church.

US cardinal in secret Vatican talks

If they're so secret, why do all the papers know about it?

You'llhave to forgive Cardinal Law. While in Rome, he met a lovely Italian choir boy and is now deep in love. Law, of course, is a Prince of the Church and answers only to the Pope and to God. All the rest of you can just bugger off!

Well I had hope the Pope was going to can a bunch of them and read the riot act to the others at the meeting he called but now it looks like my original evaluation of him was correct

He is completely out of it

Unless the American Catholic community rises up and DEMANDS action or just leaves the Catholic Church in the USA is finished

It's unfortunate that, in the way the meeting is described, it makes it seem that with the Pope's approval Cardinal Law is somehow exonerated of delinquency of duty in the handling of the Shanley case. "Rome wants me to stay" and so forth. Whatever his other meritorious qualities may be, he needs to explain what he was thinking about or why he wrote letters saying Shanley was fine and had no problems when he transferred this seasoned abuser to another diocese. It doesn't make much sense. Whether he is entirely innocent and just a well-meaing fool who didn't understand serial sex abuse, he has become a symbol of the violation of trust perpetrated by some U.S. bishops. By staying in the headlines, he keeps the mud flying at the Church.

The only answer to this Idiot Law is to stop giving Money in the Baskets until he gets out of operation of the church. If the Pope don't Like it ( God Bless Him ) it's too bad.

There has to be a real reckoning between the catholic People and these Morons who are presently in the hierarchy screwing things up And destroying the lives of the innocent.

If the Pope wants to test our resolve it's fine with me, let's give it a try.

Let law get his salary from NAMBLA & Shanley..

What is worse is that Cardinal Law has now dragged Rome into problems of his own creation. He makes it appear that Rome supports his handling of the situation. He needs to hire new PR advisers.

Well since he wasn't relieved of his duties ROME is supporting him

Wonder what Buckley , Buchanan and Keyes are going to editorialize about this

Going to be very interesting

Yeah. And pathetic to see a cardinal (/archbishop) running to Rome and claiming he has the support of the Pope to continue to cover his own tail. The idea that he has any credibility to lead a diocese (after the Shanley revelations particularly) is just so out of touch with reality. It's very sad to see someone with this much authority this deep in denial. It's almost Clintonesque.

Would you please tell me if you approved of the way the United States government under the leadership of Clinton destroyed the Murrah building before the investigation was completed. This effectively stopped the the pursuit of justice and it seems now allowed the middle-east connection go merrily on their way right to the WTC.What do you think?

Analogies to the coverups of Clinton scandals are pretty much on target. Dershowitz was screaming about "sexual McCarthyism" when Clinton was accused of sex crimes. We haven't heard much from Prof. Dershowitz calling for covering for the Catholic Church. Wonder why... Libs are already uneasy about the wider homosexual and NAMBLA links to the church scandals. A wall of silence will come crashing down before all the facts are revealed. Just watch... You don't see Clinton, Michael Jackson, or Marv Albert languishing in prison, do you?

Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. | April 17, 2002 | Stephen G. Brady

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 1 PM EDT, April 17, 2002

CATHOLIC WATCHDOG GROUP CALLS ON U.S. CARDINALS TO AFFIRM CHURCH TEACHING WHILE IN ROME

An international group of faithful Roman Catholics has contacted Vatican prelates and all active U.S. cardinals and asked them to publicly affirm the Church's 1961 pronouncement against admitting homosexuals or pedophiles to the priesthood.

Stephen G. Brady, the president of Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. (RCF) issued a statement on Wednesday that was directed to 8 active U.S. cardinals as well as a number of additional American and Vatican prelates. The American cardinals include Roger Mahony of Los Angeles, Francis George of Chicago, Theodore McCarrick of Washington, D.C., William Keeler of Baltimore, Anthony Bevilacqua of Philadelphia, Edward Egan of New York City, Adam Maida of Detroit, and the currently embattled Bernard Law of Boston. They will be traveling to Rome next week with National Conference of Catholic Bishops president Bishop Wilton Gregory and others at the summons of the Holy Father. They will be participating in closed-door meetings with Vatican representatives to address the scandal and damage the Church in America is undergoing due to an increasing number of sexual abuse cases coming to light. A number of prelates have been accused of protecting abusive priests and moving them to other areas, where they have repeated their predatory acts with new victims. An overwhelming number of offenses have involved homosexual acts.

"As a measure of their sincerity in addressing this horrible crisis inflicting so much damage on the souls of the innocent," Brady charged, "we challenge each and every one of these princes of the Church to sign a statement agreeing they will follow the direction of a letter issued by the Sacred Congregation for Religious in Rome." Brady is asking each prelate to affirm the following declaration: "I, ________ Cardinal ________, hereby agree to follow the direction of the letter issued by the Sacred Congregation for Religious in Rome in 1961, which states: 'Those affected by the perverse inclination to homosexuality or pederasty should be excluded from religious vows and ordination'". The Church directive has never been rescinded and is still officially in force.

"If a cardinal is not willing to sign this document," Brady stated, "then there is no point in his traveling to Rome. Moreover, if he travels to Rome and doesn't sign it, I wish he'd do us a favor and just stay there."

Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. (RCF) is a not-for-profit lay organization, with many religious members, dedicated to promoting orthodox Catholic teaching and fighting heterodoxy and corruption within the Catholic hierarchy.

From NRO Online The Corner:

BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY: [Rod Dreher] Michael Rose, author of Goodbye, Good Men, the blockbuster expose of homosexuality and heresy in American seminaries, e-mails to say he just filled an order from a Polish monsignor in the Vatican, who ordered four copies and promised to do his best to get a copy into the Holy Father's hands before the pontiff meets next week with the American cardinals. You go, Monsignor! If John Paul reads only chapter four, "The Gay Subculture," he will meet the cardinals with fire blazing in his eyes. In other good news, Regnery Publishing has bought rights to Goodbye, Good Men, which is now out only in paperback, and will be rushing a hardcover edition into stores next month. Regnery's involvement means this extremely important book will get huge distribution and exposure. Posted 1:50 PM | [Link]

Thanks for this post. Oddly enough, there is actually a very good way to prevent the entry of pederasts and homosexuals into the priesthood. By making seminary students take a course on sexuality in which homosexuality and pederasty are emphatically denounced, all one need do is watch as the more emotionally unbalanced homosexual and pederast students begin to get viscerally uncomfortable. If you begin to speak very harshly about the abominable nature of homosexuality, the ardent homosexuals become visibly distressed, angry, and upset. They will fidget in their desks, grimace, and perspire. They would have trouble sitting through a semester-length course on the subject. Making them stand up and explain why the church teaches that homosexuality and pederasty are evil, the hundreds of millions of dollars that criminal pederast crimes have cost the Church and the faifthful, would be enough discomfort for some deviants to make them leave.
