Crash Course on the Arab Israeli Conflict <

1. Nationhood and Jerusalem. Israel became a nation in 1312 B.C.E., two thousand years before the rise of Islam.

2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E., the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.

4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 C.E. lasted no more than 22 years.

5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.

7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.

8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.

10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.

11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.

12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples' lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country the size of New Jersey.

13. The Arab - Israeli Conflict: The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.

14. The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.

15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.

16. The U.N. Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.

17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.

18. The U.N was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.

19. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

20. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

Why did you put the Library of Congress as the source of this information? I can't find the listed text anywhere in the link you posted.

Sounds like a potential for snopes.com

So, during Lawrence of Arabia time, Jews controlled that area? Brits, Turks, Arabs sure didn't think so at the time, did they?

And while we got three people on this flight sharing my laptop, what does longevity have to do with it? We live in southern Arizona, and us and all locals are happy with being America. (Forget the kids in California colleges) But it was part of Mexico at one time, Spain, and countless Indians claimed it once. History sometimes makes sense, but politics never does.

In our Humble Opinions, peace won't break out until the individual folks on the ground have the guts to insist on it. With all those suits making a good living off of war posturing, it's not likely soon, sadly.

Have a good one!

OK, now we got it.

Guy in the row behind us says Free Republic is like that chalk board in the hall from the bar to the toilets...people just put any stuff up and then leave.

His wife commented "that's wrong about Jews facing Jerusalem to pray, and Muslims turning their back on Jerusalem when they prey. Muslims pray towards Mecca, if a Muslim is anywhere where Jerusalem is between him and Mecca, he will be facing both. Or a Muslim east of Mecca will face Mecca with Jerusalem on the other side....nice laptop, can you get BBC with it?"

Now we all can chat about Dell, which makes more sense than the Free Republic Tabloid History Lesson.

Oh please, with the politically correct "B.C.E."

I thought I read somewhere that a Palestinian family once lived on the disputed land in 1322 "B.C.E.", a full decade before the Israelies. Well, there you go, the land belongs to the Palestinians.

I just love it when the competing sides go back further and further in time to make their case. Since America was first on the moon, does it belong to us? Now, if Neil Armstrong were Jewish, would that mean .....

You must have a problem. The originator of this thread has posted factual information.

There is no such thing as a "Palestinian."

Israel has my full and complete support in their action against the terrorists. However, the "I was there first" arguments always bore me. Do you plan on giving your house to the indians?

Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

Untrue. Muslims pray facing Mecca. Depending on where they are located at the time, this may have them facing Jerusalem, also. As in Indonesia or parts of Europe.

The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians.

FYI, there are 22 members of the Arab League.

"Oh please, with the politically correct "B.C.E."

BCE is how Jehovah's Witnesses skirt the divinity of Christ.

There is some evidence that the first human inhabitants of North America were "white," to the extent that the word has any meaning in this context. OTOH, it has at least as much meaning as the claim that the Mongolian invaders who wiped them out or absorbed them genetically were "Indians."

Should the Indian tribes be required to give me stock in their casinos to compensate me for the land a (very) distant relative might have been robbed of?

Peculiar comment.

BC means "Before Christ." Do you think that using this expression means that the person using it is recognizing the divinity of Christ? If so, how could Jews, Muslims or Buddhists use it?

When you see this "C.E." and B.C.E." crap you know that the person using it rejects the spirituality of people and events, not just the birth of Jesus Christ.

3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E.....

----------------------

An interesting and truthful statement, although I'm not certain about the exactness of the date.

Well, they conquered the area. Now other people want to reconquer it for themselves.

Untrue. Formal rule from 638 to 1099 was under either the Umayyad, Abassid or Fatimid caliphs, who were all most definitely Arabs.

Actual power was often in the hands of Turks or other mercenaries, however.

The truth is on Israel's side... there is no need to add non-truth to our argument. Of course Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Koran, since the Arabic name for the city is Al-Qids. We, at least, can adhere to a strong standard of honesty even if the other side cannot.

I don't care if the Arabs had Israel up until last week, the world will be a much better place if the civilized people keep control for the future.

By that logic the indians controled this real estate since the begining of time and we've been here 200 years. Not sure I want to use that argument.
