This can't be. I've been assured by the open borders bunch we need more immigrants to bus our tables and pick our veggies. Ever notice the usual proponents to mass immigration are never around when these statistical articles are posted? Is is maybe because the countless studies show that uncontrolled immigration is detrimental and they have no real comeback?

You are depressing my Easter.

I think a bunch of locals should buy a truck full of T-Shirts that says THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. Put them on and go to our side of the boarder and throw them back the illegals into Mexico.

Make sure they read the shirt as they do it.

Kills two birds with one stone.

I'm perhaps one of the least compasionate towards this invasion as anyone (mining the border and patrolling it with AH-64s is fine by me), but in the end it is our own elite that is selling us out. To everyone here I recommend Jean Respail's "The Camp of Saints" it is fiction, but it is fiction that tells of our plight better than any "mainstream" media account. We can aim at the campesinos, but these simpletons should go way down the target list and the fellow travelers should go straight to the top.

"The immigrants are using more welfare because they are poorer, not because they have more of a propensity to use welfare," Passel said.

'll accept that analysis. Why then, would we want to continue to import or allow millions of poor people to settle here?

Ron
PS. Does the "Welfare" include the Earned Income Tax Credit? I know alot of immigrant New Yorkers who get this.

The illegal aliens that I arrest on a daily basis do not fit my definition of being poor. If these people were poor they wouldn't be sporting the latest styles in clothing. They wouldn't have pagers and cell phones. They wouldn't be driving cars and they sure as hell wouldn't armed with guns. Poor.. my ass.

Yes, you have identified the oximoronic statement in this article. Circular reasoning at its worst.

I live in SoCal. On a visit to Alaska last fall, the housekeeping crew at the hotel I stayed at in Anchorage were all Spanish speaking. I was shocked, I have to tell you.

There were employment ads in the newspaper seeking bi-lingual workers for Headstart - bilingual in Spanish/English. I guess they haven't yet learned the lessons of that trip- around-the-corner up there.

With respect to Western Civilization, you will remember that after the Roman Empire fell, the Dark Ages settled over Europe for approximately 500 years. While I don't see us entering a Dark Ages per se, I do see us settling down to a lowest common denominator in terms of our economy. All the statistics point to a wedge occuring in terms of the highly educated and skilled, and those with middle level skills who are losing ground.

Thanks for the pings.

Here in Dallas they tried to change President's Day to Ceasar Chavez Day. We raised so much hell with city council that they voted it down. Then after hours City Council voted to include Ceasar Chavez Day with Labor Day. They snuck that one passed us and we had no say in the matter.

About a week ago I noticed on TV that the Mexicans were having a parade here and in Fort Worth honoring Chavez. I don't know what the occasion was but they were out in force. Maybe a birthday or something.

We're losing it folks - and the government is leading us down the slippery slope.

They either don't live near the problem or are benefitting by hiring cheap help themselves. Anyone who doesn't believe large numbers of immigrants are ending up on welfare needs to get out and visit a housing project and grocery store near one. Or work in a health clinic and see who is coming in with Medicaid cards. We are getting some very good immigrants including from Mexico but we're getting hordes of lowlives too.

I see plenty of those too --and it's interesting because they aren't educated or speaking English well enough to get a good job ---except in drugs.

You're both right. Mariana Pfaelzer did the ruling as a Federal District Court judge, and Gray Davis did not appeal her ruling to the 9th Circuit. Which would have agreed with her, leading to appeal no. 2 to the Supreme Court. Where, as can be seen by the ruling yesterday, it would be found eminently constitutional.

So, what to do? Will Simon appeal 187? Please. He's with Catholic Charities, the illegal alien service agency. I have a different idea.

Idea No. 1: Arizona is in need of a 187 like initiative, since they are losing hospitals and services to unreimbursed charges for illegals. It would pass right now, but maybe not in 5 - 10 years. MALDEF, NCLR, etc would take it to court right away. If it were declared unconstitutional (and it might not be, depending on the judge), a Republican governor would appeal it. And it would be declared constitutional by the Supreme Court, making such initiatives possible across the country. Or even laws passed by legislatures. Note: this is why I pinged you, DL.

Idea No. 2: There's no reason that an "identification required for voter registration" initiative can't be passed in California. Oh, the alphabet soup terroristas will be after it, but again, I can't see any reason a Rehnquist court would overturn such a thing. The states have the right to do this; it doesn't require congress. It only has to pass constitutional muster. That would simply require the identification to consist of any accepted government issued proof of citizenship: birth certificate, passport, NOT a social security card, etc.

End of the RAT use of illegals for Get Out The Vote campaigns. So, end of the line for a lot of RATs. And, perhaps, a resurgence for 187, or another law that would allow us to stop subsidizing our own colonization.

Right now any 187 type of initiative would have to be done outside the Republican Party. The State Chairman and local County Chairman are right now concentrating on bringing Hispanics and other minorities into the party, and this would surely be used by propagandists against the party.

However, as you see, I pinged some activist Freepers to get their input on this issue.

BTW, thank you for the ping.

"There's no reason that an "identification required for voter registration" initiative can't be passed in California."

Recently I applied for a Driver's License in California and was required to produced either a birth certificate or passport as well as my license from another state. But then I was born here so maybe the rules are different for me.

Call the Kali DMV at 1-800-777-0133 to find out why they (and all Kali state offices) will be closed this saturday and monday.

Who authorized this two day closing for anything other than Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday? California legislature? county council? executive order? ...or are the days off actually on the books due to Easter? Do any Californians know the answer to this?
