I was just watching the Ari Fliesher press confrence and Helen Tomas asked Mr. Fliesher, "What gives Bush the authority to attack other nations?"
I think she's lost it.
I wonder what Ms. Thomas said about that!
You don't understand, B4B. Helen Thomas is the definition of intelligence to the left. Snide remarks are the epitomy of creativity don't you know. Mischaracterisation is pure genius in their book.
Her column makes a lot of sense and has given me incredible insight into the Truman Administration. Believe me this Eisenhower fellow hasn't a prayer.
"Throughout his eight years in office, President Clinton warned us that the next great menace was international terrorism....He also brought unprecedented prosperity to our nation, and because of that, President [Bush] can use the surplus Mr. Clinton left behind to pay for many of the nations needs in this time of crisis....This lecture series is about the human spirit. To me and millions of others, President Clinton has always personified that. He is the man from Hope, and that is what he has given us, hope. We miss him. Thank you, Mr. President."

I sent the following:
Mr. Lewis:
Again today, during the WH briefing, Helen Thomas embarrassed herrself, Hearst Corporation and all professional journalists with her rude questioning. She has lost whatever credibility she may have had as a journalist by her disrespectful actions and comments to anything relating to the current White House administration. It's obvious her extreme bias and loss of journalistic objectivity deem her unworthy to represent The Hearst Corporation. It would appear to be in the best interest of The Hearst Corporation to end the employment of Ms. Thomas

Hearst Newspapers columnist Helen Thomas to President Bush, March 29 news conference.
I mean, I've heard her colleagues (her liberal colleagues!) laugh out loud at the stupidity of her questions.
Helen's question sounds lame in the present context, but I think that someone should be asking questions like that of every candidate for President. Part of preparing to serve as President should involve understanding intimately the sources and limits of the powers that are being seek. And I would bet that, without being prompted, a lot of them would give some pretty bizarre answers to such questions.
I LOVE this line. It fits with the theme of the article, but it's just sort of thrown in there as if she just remembered the episode but can't explain why it's relevent to the issue she's discussing
When Justice William O. Douglas became senile, or at least potty, toward the end of his long service on the Supreme Court, a delegation of his colleagues came to him privately and suggested that it was time for him to leave the bench, He announced his retirement shortly thereafter.
If the White House Press Corps has a similar sense of dignity (highly unlikely, but go with the premise for a bit), they would send a delegation to have such a meeting with Helen Thomas. They're unlikely to make such a move on their own initiative.
Do you think a certain Massachusetts talk show host should make such a suggestion on the air? Do you think that host should put the same suggestion out to the Radio Talk Show Hosts Association and to Blanquita who is still its President? Do you think said host should write a short piece for Talkers Magazine, suggesting the same subject?
If so, can you think of a talk show host in say New Bedford, Massachusetts, who might undertake such a task?
Methinks it is time to start driving some issues, rather than just reacting to them.

Even Strom wouldn't date this dried up hag, Helen makes those young hotties Barbara Mikulski and Hilliary! look good.
MR. FLEISCHER: His threats?
Q Any country. Yes, he's --
MR. FLEISCHER: Would you like to be more specific?
Q Does he think he can go beyond Afghanistan or anywhere else?
MR. FLEISCHER: The President has made it clear to the American people that the United States, in the wake of an attack on our country, will defend itself. And as a result of defending ourselves, you can see what is happening in Afghanistan. The President has said that this is a war against terrorism because terrorists continue to pose a threat to the United States and to others around the world, and that he is involved in phase one of defending this country against terrorists, and he will continue to do so.
Q What gives him the authority to go into other countries and bomb them, which is what he is threatening to do?
MR. FLEISCHER: The right as the Commander-in-Chief to protect and defend the American people.
