Israelis Shocked by Biden’s Betrayal on Ammunition, but Determined to Win

Israelis across the political spectrum were shocked Thursday by U.S. President Joe Biden’s commitment to stop the shipment of offensive weapons to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to prevent Israel from attacking Hamas in Rafah.

Biden made the threat in an interview Wednesday with CNN that aired early Thursday local time, just hours after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin admitted to the Senate that a shipment of bombs to Israel had been paused.

The president expanded the stoppage to include artillery, and accused Israel of using American-made weapons to kill Palestinian civilians — a claim that echoed the accusations of antisemitic “encampments” at the nation’s universities.

This is theater. The Israelis have enough ordinance to take out Hamas. Once they do and the dust settles after a couple of months the American arms shipments will resume.

A pathway to the safety of the West Bank should be made for Gazan women, children and old men by Israel.

Which would be infiltrated by HAMAS fighters disguised as women to escape, or by HAMAS suicide bombers to kill civilians who try to escape.

That is beginning to change, and I expect that the process will gather force over time. American Jews are now confronting four painful and perplexing developments that cannot be denied or glossed over:

(1) the Biden administration's lack of full support for Israel;

(2) the turn of opinion at elite academic institutions against Israel;

(3) the metastasis of DEI advocates and progressives into hostility toward Israel and open, nasty Jew hatred; and

(4) the decay of New York, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, and other urban centers of Jewish population due to softness on crime, hostility toward police, and other progressive policies.

Similar developments in the 1970s took several years to bear fruit and help spur the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. I expect that a Trump II administration will do a great deal in the way of productive outreach to American Jews and help pull 15 to 25 per cent toward the GOP by 2028.

A close Jewish friend of many years described the surge of new gun owners at his local range in Palm Beach County in south Florida as beginning about three years ago. The surge of new gun owners who were Jews and black women was significant enough to make it hard to get range time.
