Not charged with brandishing or something to that effect? In some states it’s called just plain old assault to pull a gun on someone just because you feel like it.

In all likelihood, a common theme in Florida neighborhoods is retention ponds to handle the runoff from summer thunderstorms and potential hurricanes and tropical storms, these neighborhood ponds and lakes are all owned by the HOA which has the responsibility to maintain them, in our neighborhood we have company hired that puts in a small johnboat and motors around spraying the shoreline to keep down weeds that could affect runoff and breeding grounds for snakes.

It’s possible in this neighborhood this is not the case but almost universally HOAs are not going to allow fishing, swimming or boating in the HOA owned bodies of water because of liability reasons.

Nearly every body for freshwater in Florida is likely at some point to have an alligator take up residence, if a kid were attacked by a Gator because they were fishing on the shoreline and the HOA didn’t enforce the rules, they would get sued into oblivion.

Geez that was not very nice of you. Fishing is pretty innocent. I get it if they were smoking weed. But something wholesome and benign like fishing? You just proved to them the world sucks.

Those lakes and retaining ponds down there are chock full of fish. Large fish populations invite alligators, which causes other issues.

Many folks down there fish for sustenance. Fishing is free if you have proof of residence.

Threatening kids is not the way to handle the situation. Incentives might have worked better.

Graduating law school at 27 or 28 is totally normal. In an urban setting, lots of grads are way older than that. In my law school days, I was 23 when I graduated (because of early admission I started at 20 as did about 5 other kids) but there were people who started in their 40s.

“If you’ve ever had a kid drown in your pond, it gives a totally different perspective of the situation.”

That’s why liabilty insurance exists, it’s cheap too. Posting alligator warnings might have given 2nd thoughts.

Fishing is innocent, but going on other people’s property without their permission is not innocent, fishing on a property owned by the HOA which prohibits the activity because of all sorts of liability issues is not innocent either.

Why have rules and property rights when they aren’t followed if no one respects either one.

If that makes me a bad person, then I proudly accept that.

You could have introduced yourself, struck up a conversation with them, asked if they were neighbors, where they lived, Andy Griffith style, maybe they were in need of a decent adult role model in their lives. But there is always next time. Told them you weren’t necessarily opposed to them fishing but the proper way to go about it is to ask permission.

This is barely above par for an out of control HOA president. Psychos are drawn to easy power.

Going on other people’s property without their permission is a red line for me, it’s definitely a no go with me, I blame their parents for not teaching this lesson.

Like I said earlier, I grew up in a farm community where you could get shot at if you were caught on another farmer’s property without their permission and gotten a beating when you got home.

Plus, in our neighborhood we have signs all over the place that say fishing is not allowed, why have rules when people ignore them.

We had another situation similar to this at the community pool where my wife and I own a condo, the sign at the pool says no children under 14 allowed without the parents supervision, one day a small group of owners were sitting by the pool when 3 children clearly under 14 came out to swim, one of the owners told them they couldn’t swim in the pool without their parents being there, the kids left and immediately their parents came down and were mad that someone told their children they couldn’t swim, when the owner pointed to the sign and the rules, the parents weren’t happy but had to accept their kids could not swim without their presence.

Are there any florida hoa ponds without alligators?

I don't know.

Are there any HOA run complexes without ponds that are free of Cottonmouth snakes, Copperhead snakes, Eastern Diamondback rattle snakes, Timber rattlesnakes, Pygmy rattlesnakes, Coral snakes, Burmese pythons, Brown Recluse spiders, Brown Widow spiders, scorpions and Cane toads?

I carry a $3 million Umbrella Liability on top of other policies. It still does not bring the child back to life.
