US withdraws troops from base in Chad following government demand

The US military has withdrawn troops from a French military base in Chad after the country demanded they leave last month, a Pentagon spokesperson and other sources familiar with the matter told CNN on Wednesday.

More than half of the US troops stationed at the French military base in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, have now left the country and relocated to Germany.

CNN previously reported that fewer than 100 US troops were stationed in Chad, most of them as part of the US’ Special Operations Task Force, an important hub for US Special Operations Forces in the region.

The Special Operations Task Force was previously based in Germany before moving to Chad in 2021.

“We can confirm the safe and orderly relocation of approximately 60 US forces from Chad to Germany where they will continue their work,” Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Pete Nguyen told CNN on Wednesday. “This temporary step is part of an ongoing review of our security cooperation, which will resume after the May 6 Presidential election.”

The withdrawal was completed on Tuesday, Nguyen said.

yes. when the USA changed administrations almost everything went unhinged. Not completely by accident, either. There’s a ton of money being made

China also makes loans to these nations, not grants, and when they are forfeited, take their return in natural resources.

Russia and China are ruthless, they might be more successful than the US or France in this place because of this. We shall see. They will learn to respect Moscow and Peking in ways they do not expect now.

What puzzles me - why are the states of the Sahel in Africa choosing Russia and China en masse, and kicking out the USA and France?

They can offer money, we can offer money

they can offer payoffs, we can offer payoffs

They can offer weapons, we can offer weapons

They can offer military training, we can offer military training

They can offer travel, passports, and offshore banks, we can offer travel, passports and offshore banks

There is something else there which is unclear - perhaps Western involvement necessarily comes with other attachments and requirements - which are NOT interesting to these leaders in Africa?

The ChiComs and Russians are carving the continent up between them.

And doing so quite easily and effectively, it seems

What specific and obvious advantages do Russia/China have? Is there something particularly repugnant to them about the the 21st century West?

Russia and China tolerate corruption, as it is a part of their own culture. It’s expected and counted as a cost of doing business. The US does not, to a great extent, at least publicly. ....................

> One of the classic problems we have, is that we build bases. The Chinese show up and build roads, dams, etc. <

Right. I was listening to NPR radio awhile back, and they were interviewing some young African guy. I forget from which country. The African was going on and on about how great a friend China was.

Turns out China provided engineers and low-interest loans to build a modern system of roads for the capital. And now traffic could move so much better. Everyone was very grateful.

Of course China will not be as friendly when the loans come due. Unfortunately, the NPR interviewer was simply too dumb to ask about that.

The idea is to try and tamp down and limit terrorists before they can mount operations in Europe and America, along with trying to keep our enemies from taking over various countries and regions, resources, populations, and geography.

Biden has brought so much of the world’s respect back the US, we’re getting kicked out of these half pint countries and being replaced bybRussia and/or China. Nice work, Brandon.

From what I understand the US has lost its reputation as the good guy.

For one thing the US State department has pushing the homosexual agenda worldwide mostly through our embassies and consulates. Africa, with the exception of South Africa, rejects that lifestyle as immoral.

China/Russia/Iran/and other countries have been using their PR machines labeling the US as a warmonger nation always pushing our way of life upon others. That and other diplomatic practices, such as engineering revolutions, have over just a few years turned non-western nations away from the US. Nuland, our ace diplomat, outside the US is the most unpopular

Yes, our state dept threatened to basically ruin their economies with sanctions if they allowed the russians to set up base there. they leaders of those nations don’t take kindly to threats and told them to leave, they were no longer welcome after the threats.

Why? Why? Why?

Did the US ever need to station troops in Chad?

It’s a case of a hammer looking for a nail.
