Columbia University and other private colleges should cough up and help foot the bill for the NYPD having to swarm the Ivy League campus and crackdown on pro-terror protests, Mayor Eric Adams said Thursday.
Hizzoner addressed the cost to Big Apple taxpayers after cops were finally called in to help oust a destructive mob that had illegally taken over Columbia’s Hamilton Hall academic building late Tuesday and to clear out an encampment on the school’s iconic lawn.
“We believe that they, too, should contribute to the cost,” the mayor told FOX5 when asked whether the Ivy League school should have to open its checkbook in the wake of the massive operation.

The National Guard should have been called in. This is not the job for Policeman and it’s unfair to use them for this purpose.
Have a yard sale on the tents, coolers, tables, chairs, gas masks, plywood, etc.
Sue the president, the faculty, the students of The Army of Communism, the donors to that communist organization for terror, and the outsiders (especially they, who are paid by any government or by any government program and/or project).
BAN GOVERNMENT FUNDING of the campuses and faculties involved.
BAN GOVERNMENT FUNDING of NPR and PBS.
“How about they dig into their endowment and pay for it ALL.”

They can easily afford to with their $13.6 billion endowment.
Maybe fine them half a billion just for fun.
If true, then no argument with your post.
I wasnt following too close this story. Only peripherally keeping track. I tend to think that lefty colleges are so stuck on stupid and naive about consequences that they could not have foreseen the outcome. So the question I have, using your analogy, is did the CCNY administrators start the fire, or did professional anarchist from outside create a crisis that had only bad outcomes to choose from?
If the latter then maybe you just have a 'being stupid' fine for the college and collect the rest as fines from those arrested criminal trespassers.
“Adams will take that money and give it his Illegals”

And there you have it.
How about filing suit against the “protestors” and their financiers.

Assuming a very modest rate of return on Columbia’s assets they could easily pay a fine like this. And still have money left to spend on whatever they spend money on. The endowment is generating well over half a billion a year.
This at Columbia University (a private Ivy League school), not City College (a tax payer funded school).
Charge the idiot students and their parents.
Something I actually agree with him on.
Make those arrested pay!
Good idea.
Our society really needs the reality check of learning that actions have consequences.
make the terrorist protestors pay!!!
>They can easily afford to with their $13.6 billion endowment.<
Dig deep enough and find a piece of property or investment that the University overvalued and fine them $450 Million.
EC
I saw a listing of the amount of Federal dollars sent to these schools. Columbia tops the list at over 1 BILLION $!
So, no matter what, our tax dollars will pay for all of this! It is just a question as to which budget gets hit, the state or the fed.
Either way, we are screwed, big-time, by ourselves.
Don’t forget the slippery slope with progressives. Requiring users of police service to pay when the service is rendered, in addition to the taxes already paid, is an ideal strapped cities with entrenched leftist governments would love to implement.
Today the demand is for Columbia to pay for police protection. Next will be businesses in New York. Ultimately, if a citizen call the police about a prowler on your property, vandalism to your auto, or a robbery in your home, you’ll be billed for the “service call” and the investigation. It won’t matter that tax money funds the police.
Not unlike what universities public and private have done with “fees” over the past 50 years. When I was in college tuition, room and board were the primary costs. “Fees” most of which went to fund the college newspaper and clubs that put on events for the entire university community, were very small. Today fees are a huge source of revenue.
AND What ever happened to the rule about ‘only one phone call’ when you're arrested?
I mean. I saw all the kiddies in the paddy wagon, WITH their phones ...and chatting their empty heads off.
Also, in California, police surrounded the demonstrators, then the ‘demonstrators’ called their pals to come and surround the police!
Seriously???? Do you have to be a West Point, 4 star General to anticipate THAT Stalingrad move??
