The dog apparently killed some neighbor’s chickens and so on. Any dog doing similar in farm country is likely to be shot.

You would’ve thought she could’ve taken him to a shelter for adoption as a pet.

Why? So she could be adopted by some loving family? And subsequently attack a child? Taking that dog to a shelter would only result in them killing it.

You have to read the Guardian article for the details of how the dog killed several of the neighbors chickens and then turned on Noem. Important details that Jazz Shaw curiously leaves outs of his article.

Dogs killing chickens do not make good pets.

There are no shelters in the country. There's no tax base or donations for that sort of thing. There's a shelter two counties over but they only take animals from people who live in that county.

There's a few small cities around here and when some renter can no longer have a dog or poor people can no longer afford to feed them, they drop them off out here in rural land. They'll either get taken in or shot.

Actually, all she had to do was shut her big mouth about it. Her book could have been incredible. But she had to be intriguing or something.

“You would’ve thought she could’ve taken him to a shelter for adoption as a pet.”

In rural South Dakota? In the 80’s?

I live in farm county and urbanized people are still dumping animals “out in the country” because they don’t want to pay for euthanizing them or the shelters are full.

Really? And pass your problems onto someone else? That would be irresponsible and just plain wrong.

The issue is not so much she shot her young dog to death, but she chose to write about it in her book. Poor judgement. What did she expect would be the reaction?
