In whiplash twist, Michael Avenatti considers testifying for Trump, calls trial ‘travesty’

Once one of Donald Trump’s fiercest critics, convicted attorney Michael Avenatti has been discussing possibly testifying on behalf of the former president in his hush money trial after he unleashed a tirade of criticism against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

In X posts from his Los Angeles federal prison cell and in news media interviews, Avenatti has questioned the legitimacy of Bragg’s prosecution against Trump, even suggesting it was an interference in the 2024 election.

“There’s no question it is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he (Trump) may be re-elected,” Avenatti told The New York Post in an interview published this weekend.

"If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought at this time, and for the government to attempt to bring this case and convict him in an effort to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him," he added. "I think it’s just flat-out wrong and atrocious."

He added: “I think there’s a significant chance that this is going to all backfire and is going to propel him to the White House.”

Avenatti confirmed to the newspaper that he has had discussions with Trump’s defense team about possibly testifying at the Bragg trial, where opening arguments are set to begin Monday.

If this is true then Michael Avenatti didn't kill himself.

Did Trump have both Cohen and Avenatti as his lawyers at the same time? Both are scum.

I forgot Avenatti was Stormy Daniels attorney, I heard his name so often regarding Trump I mistakenly thought he was one of his past lawyers.

The decision testify isn’t Michael Avenatti’s choice to make.

I have to agree. While it’s an interesting turn of events I’m reminded of “The Snake.”

“You knew I was a snake before you picked me up.”

I would be very aware.

Agreed. He’s a known liar and con man. Even testifying for Trump that would seem shady. OTOH, he could switch his testimony on the stand. Stay away from MA

I don’t think trumps lawyers are any good.

Would you be "any good" if your judge was Engoron or Merchan, and the FBI or NY state was looking for any excuse to put you in jail?

Some oil tycoon named “Rich” (no relation to the one Hillary killed, Seth), got a pardon from Bill on his way out, after his wife donated moolah to his ‘96 reelection campaign. He was a fugitive on the run for violating Nixon’s price controls on oil.

How could they accept jurors from New York , a known hotbed of liberal bias

This New York courtroom is filled with democrats who hate trump , how is this even possible?!! Is there no motion to transfer this case somewhere else ? Based on bias !! I’m sure there have been courtroom proceedings in the past that have been moved due to bias , there have been multiple cases that have changed venues due to racial bias , why not this case !!

I don’t know , I hope Alina Hanna wasn’t picked because of her looks , she just doesn’t come across as knowledgeable on the subjects when she speaks.

She seems to speak in a way that is meant for prime time tv and not speak from knowledge of the court room

That’s my opinion only. I’m no lawyer but something is not right

You can’t transfer a state case out of state.

Or maybe Avenatti thinks Trump will win the election and then pardon him out of gratitude for his favorable testimony.

Trump team requested a change of venue, judge said no. Chance of Acquittal in Manhattan 100 million to one, and I am not exaggerating.

It’s an attempt to get himself a pardon when President Trump reoccupies the White House.

It’s going to be tricky to rely on the testimony of one liar (Avenatti) while disparaging Cohen’s testimony because of his history of lying. Sounds to me like there could be some bad blood between Avenatti and Stormy Daniels that’s motivating him.

Chance of acquittal? Is that hope or fact ?

I’m not to sure , not because I don’t believe trump is innocent but due to the fact the jurors are corrupt

To calculate The probability of the same event occurring 12 times, raise the probability of it happening once to the 12th power. To acquit you would need 12 not guilty votes. If only 10% of the jury pool voted for Trump in the election, the probability any single juror voting not guilty is 1/10. 1/10 to the 12th power is 1/100,000,000. I believe the jury is not going to acquit.

The probability of at least one not guilty vote (hung jury) in Manhattan would be about 7 out of 10, assuming the TDS jurors didn't intimidate the minority into changing their votes to guilty. If the jury is hung and won't change any votes, that would be a mistrial. Merchan and Bragg would be very unhappy, but they could retry Trump, probablyafter the election if at all.

Is that hope or fact?

A probability is not a certainty. In the battle of Leyte Gulf, A few US destroyers held off The Imperial Japanese Navy's biggest battleships, which had 18 inch guns. It was improbable, but the Japanese fleet got confused and retreated after doing terrible damage to some of the US destroyers.
