The entire nation was on high alert for two weeks before 07 October. I do not recall what religious holiday that is. Yom Kippur, maybe?
07 October was the first weekend that military defense forces stood down for three straight weekends.
What Israel was not ready for was a suicide attack by 2,000 (perhaps 3,000) amphetamine fueled teenagers.
Within 24 hours, Israel killed 1,500 suicide soldiers.
About 500 Hamas returned to Gaza within a few hours with Israeli hostages.
100% of the Hamas military officers never even left Gaza.

Sounds to me like they were “caught iff guard”.
Whether it was an invasion of “teenagers” or military personnel, it should never have happened.
Eternal vigilance is the price Israelis must pay for their existence.
Islamists can never, never, EVER be trusted to keep the peace, or their word to do so.
Their “religion” allows subterfuge to achieve its goals, including murdering those who disagree with them, or those who refuse to submit.
It is less a religion and much more a murderous cult.
Yes - but pinpricks: the main effort continues and they are projected to have a working nuclear warhead as soon as weeks from now.
They have to be stopped, now - and decisively set back. They are a real threat to us and the whole world if they get that weapon and the means to deliver it.

The deepest Hamas penetration into mostly rural southwest Israel was less than three miles.
That specific breach was a weekend music festival that had its own security. They held the position until they ran out of ammunition.
The most Israeli deaths and hostages taken occurred at the festival.
The entire invasion was built around teenage suicide volunteers.
Most of the hostage takers - who returned safely to Gaza - were clearly grown men in their 20s and older.
One final note - the Israeli Political Left has basically disarmed the Israeli public.
Ordinary citizens can only own non-military weapons and limited ammunition. In many of the villages near the Gaza border, all the civilian weapons were kept in a central lock box.

I think that I let my outrage get the better of me, particularly the dithering, half-stepping by the fake president in the White House, and the obviously paid protestors that keep popping up everywhere.
There’s simply no way that the majority of the American people are on the side of the murderous Gaza cult, no matter the volume of breathless reporting from the fake news cartel.
