The End of the Electoral College Is Finally in Sight | Opinion
Newsweak ^ | Apr 19, 2024 | David Faris Associate Professor, Roosevelt University

Earlier this week, Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) decided not to veto an obscure law called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPV), which calls for the state's 4 Electoral College votes to be awarded to the presidential candidate who gets the most votes nationally regardless of the outcome in the state. The law doesn't go into effect, however, until states totaling 270 electoral votes join the compact. That's the number of Electoral College votes required to win the presidency. Once dismissed as an unworkable, almost farcical fantasy, the NPV just tallied its 209th electoral vote with Maine, and now has a clear path to victory. And that means that the Electoral College as we know it might not survive past the 2024 election cycle.

This is incredible news. The U.S. Electoral College is, by a quite considerable margin, the most unfathomably stupid democratic institution in the world. It has already malfunctioned twice this century by awarding the presidency to the person who received fewer votes from the American electorate. The 2000 election of George W. Bush, who steered us directly into three distinct catastrophes—the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Great Recession—sent our new century disastrously off course in ways we are still feeling today. The even-more egregious 2016 elevation of former President Donald Trump, who lost the popular vote more decisively than Bush, resulted in the capture of the Supreme Court by reactionary conservatives for at least a generation.

Pretending there's still a constitution, folks?

I'm increasingly of the opinion that the topic of the Electoral College is now a dead horse, occasionally beaten to give the impression that constitutional safeguards are still in place. If the idea is to put the high-population voting districts in Democrat-run states more directly in charge of the outcome of national elections, well, they already have that via vote fraud.

Killing the Electoral College at this late hour will only allow the left to relax and enjoy their victory. I'm sure that ballot harvesting, counterfeit ballot printing and distribution, ballot box stuffing, mail-in ballot drop logistics, fee negotiations with Dominion et al, why, it all must be such a burden. Better to just get us to surrender and accept them as the permanent ruling caste.

Imagine the following scenario in 2028:

The NPV has passed and will be in effect for the first time.

Term limited out, President Trump has actively supported the GOP ticket of JD Vance and Senator Lake of Arizona.

After Trumps stunning victory in the '24 election the GDP has now surpassed 3.5 for the third year in a row, the Dow sits at 47,000, higher than all expectations, 8.5 million illegal aliens have been deported. Due to the retirements of Roberts and Thomas and the passing of Sotomayor, SCOTUS now has a clear 7-2 conservative majority. In the Senate, the GOP with 57 seats has exceeded expectations. The House, though close has now been in GOP hands for six years. The Mideast War in '24-'25 resulted in a crushing defeat of Hamas and Iran, who is now on the verge of holding its second Presidential election in a true Democratic fashion.

The election in the US is stunningly close, but due to overwhelming victories in Texas, Florida, Ohio and Arizona it appears the Vance-Lake ticket has clearly won the popular vote.

For the GOP ticket to win the Electoral College vote it will require California and its 50 plus EV's to abide by its agreement in the NPV.

California has called an emergency meeting of the NPV governors for Dec. 1, 2028. Rumor has it that California wants to be released from the NPV compact so that the Booker-Cortez ticket will be the winner.

...they already have that via vote fraud.

Nonetheless, they most likely will continue to work for an attainable back-up plan that more efficient and a lot less messy. They are no doubt impressed with the Putin model.

10960 Word Series, NYYankees vs Pittsburgh Pirates
1. P 6-4
2. NY 16-3
3. NY 10-0
4. P 3-2
5. P 5-2
6. NY 12-0
7. P 10-9

NY led in runs, 55-27....and in hits, 91-61.

So why did Pittsburgh win the Series? How can this be fair?? The analogy holds true.

More idiocy from the mathematically challenged.

It is impossible to get an exact popular vote count.

This is nothing more than the communist democrats in Maine’s 1st Congressional District (20% of the state’s land mass in southeast Maine) screwing over the red-leaning 2nd Congressional District (80% of Maine’s land mass, 27,000 square miles).

Maine split’s it’s Electoral Votes, and President Trump won the 2nd district by 10 points in 2016 and by 9 points in 2020. Trump received one electoral vote each time. A recent poll had Trump leading by 6 points statewide.

It irks the RATS that President Trump always wins this district, so this was a big FU to the 2nd district by the RATS in District 1.

If they ever get to 270, the U.S. Supreme Court will get involved, because this Compact is blatantly unconstitutional.
Another reason to vote for Trump, so we can prevent the RATS from packing the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Maine GOP plans to raise holy hell over this issue at their upcoming convention.

the Electoral College is not intended to be a “democratic institution”... indeed, it is intended to be a check on the excessive democracy that our republic’s Founders feared so greatly

same was true of their provision of a government with constitutionally-limited powers
and a government without the power to directly tax individual citizens of the various States,
and a government with Senators appointed by their States
and a government with distributed powers with the three branches of govt having checks and balances against each other

just saying that we’ve lost the Republic that Benjamin Franklin and his fellows at the Constitutional Convention worked so hard to give us

That’s when the rest of the country will abandon the two coasts. We have different morals, standards, and ability to produce things of value. The coasts of depravity have no natural materials, power or food generating ability, little talent out of journalism, and other loathsome trades. (Note to bottom dwelling towns such as Boulder, Aspen, etc...we’ll consider you to be coastal cities. )

Bring it, Dorkbamaholes, bring it. We’ll surround you, cut off your power, and televise your deaths.

If the Demoncrats ever end the Electoral College that means the East Coast and West Coast along with a few mid country states will then determine the outcome all elections and the mid country state will not need to waste their time voting as their vote will be null and void.

And I would add, if the people of Maine want to be ruled by New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, have at it!
