The Nightmare Scenario Of A House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries
Highly Respected ^ | April 18, 2024 | Scott Greer

Posted on 04/19/2024 9:05:53 AM PDT by River Hawk

Things aren’t looking good for House Speaker Mike Johnson. House conservatives are outraged by his commitment to fund Ukraine. They’ve already been upset with his past failures to pass any substantial right-wing legislation. At least two Republicans–Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie–support a motion to vacate against Johnson. If every Democrat votes for it, Johnson is done.

A lot of conservatives wouldn’t be bothered by this. They see Johnson as a traitor and would like him to pay for his failures. Many believe they can get an even better speaker with Johnson gone. This is the exact same kind of thinking that ousted Kevin McCarthy from the speakership last year. Conservatives were thrilled with Johnson’s elevation to the job, believing he would be far superior to his predecessor. Instead, he turned out to be more the same. A few (such as your humble author) predicted this, but were not listened to. So is politics.

However, getting rid of Johnson presents a far greater problem than the previous ouster of McCarthy. This time, it’s possible that the next House Speaker could be Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. When McCarthy was overthrown, the GOP had a small, yet multi-seat majority. Now they just have a one-seat majority. Just a few moderate Republicans—many of them openly furious with the conservative minority within the party’s shrinking majority—need to vote for Jeffries to make him Speaker.

The bigger problem is that a Jeffries-led House could pass amnesty. For all of Johnson’s faults, he made sure the terrible Senate immigration “deal” died. The fact Johnson immediately rejected it and said it wouldn’t make it in the House ruined its chances. But a new House Speaker could revive it—and Jeffries certainly would.

Johnson had the winning hand…border before foreign war aid. It’s the number one issue to voters. All he had to do was repeat it and repeat it again. He would have gotten it too because Ukraine is much more important to Dems. The thing is, we all know now that his winning hand was just for theater. He never intended to force the issue.

‘I get a sense that many GOP reps have a deep dislike for the new direction of the party and would rather be in the minority.’
They may soon get their wish, after the November election, when the Democrats may win back the House outright.

I don’t really see a difference between two parties.

Samson and Galt seem the options at this point in the face of the Uniparty juggernaut.

” I guess you like the idea of 30 million new voters before the election. “

Why didn’t the Dems do that in 2021-22 ?

If traitors like Johnson are not punished they will never change.

For all those saying they don’t care if Jeffries become speaker, I suggest if/when it happens, you will support him and not complain, right?

We won’t see people on Free Republic lamenting a democrat in charge?

I lament McCarthy and Johnson. Before that, I lamented Boehner, Hastert and Ryan.

Pelosi was worse, though. She “deemed” Obama a natural born citizen, pushed through Obamacare, stopped the Hillary and Benghazi investigations, and lastly stuck a knife in the heart of MAGA, with not one but two impeachments and framing hundreds to rot in prison over her decision not to deploy the National Guard Trump offered on Jan 6th, then stacked a committee of liars to falsely frame and accuse.

Hakken is cut from the same cloth, and she will dictate her will through him.

I don’t want to keep electing RINO speakers, but absolutely resist having any democrat in charge. They’re venomous.

I wish people here would offer real alternatives instead of raw emotions and solutions that will never happen (MTG as speaker)...

The ONLY solution is to vote MAGA no matter what, and never, ever not vote.

The Senate was 50-50 with Harris as a tie breaker. Both Manchin and Sinema said they would not vote for amnesty without major concessions.

Too many people in this country do not give a $#!+.

The Senate should never be majority democrat. I’m still ticked off at all the religious conservatives here in Alabama who stayed home and let Roy Moore be beaten by Doug Jones. Roy is/was a real conservative and 100% not RINO, but the idea he dated younger girls got all the Baptists in a tizzy.

What about Romney ? What about all the other RINO stooges on the record for “Immigration Reform” ?

When you notice that they only do this stuff when the REpubs are in the majority, we will be getting somewhere.

The USA isn’t unique. Regime “conservatives” are actually the ones who push thru the most radical changes on a “bipartisan” basis. Same in Uk. Canada, Australia. etc.

I wish I had a good answer. But like I said, the 100K or so folks posting on Free Republican aren’t enough.

Where are the supposed millions of conservatives?

They don’t get mad enough to post, let alone vote.

The “evidence” was a message in a girl’s yearbook in ink that didn’t match his signature. If you haven’t got a crime the liberals in both parties will create one for you.

Re: "Scare tactics. Fear mongering."

Unless I misunderstand the math, all the Democrats need to do is flip two Republicans.

With the proper allocation of Blackmail and Bribery, the Democrats could flip two Republicans in a couple minutes.

The short answer is that they are defeated and cowed by the Left.

I look at the UK, Canada, and the USA which I know pretty well, and there are large numbers of people who are not happy with how things are going, but they don’t know what to do and they don’t think they can do anything.

They have figured out that whoever they vote for, on certain issues like immigration, “free trade”, NeoCon wars, that these happen regardless.

People know that Trump is different (that’s why there are 91 charges). But they know the rest are the same.

Once people realize that voting and elections doesn’t change anything important, they become demoralized because they are locked into the “Boomer Truth Regime” and “Constitutional Conservatism” where any political change can only happen via elections.

In a powerful way, the endless series of betrayals by the latest conservative “hero” are a Regime feature, not a bug. People just become demoralized and drop out. And they rule without effective opposition.

Interesting.

Did you know that there are two house Republicans who vote with the Democrats more than they do with the Republicans?

They are: Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and David Valadao (R-CA)

This is why Masshole and MTG should STFU and get past the Ukraine/Israel funding bill and work to keep a GOP House in November. The M.I.C. ALWAYS wins, always will. Move on.
