There has been quite the brouhaha these past few days since women's basketball phenom Caitlin Clark was picked first in the WNBA draft, and it was announced that her annual salary for her rookie season would be $76,535. The shrieking harridans of the "GENDER PAAAAAAAY GAP!!!!!!" squad were immediately deployed, and they haven't yet stopped shouting.
As it is with all loud leftist outrages, facts, economics, and the general steely coldness of reality never enter into the conversation. Chief among those facts is that the $76,535 rookie salary is a set amount under the WNBA's salary structure and was known well ahead of time. The garment-renders who became aghast after the draft have been proclaiming not only their anger but their ignorance as well.
We all know that being ignorant and loud really isn't a drawback on the Left. It's actually kind of their thing.
The default position for the gender pay gap crowd is to begin with an apples-and-oranges comparison of what men in similar positions make. These discussions on the Left are never allowed to introduce the wide variety of variables that influence the pay gap, of course.
Those who are shocked — SHOCKED, I tell you — by Clark's rookie salary immediately go to rookie salaries in the NBA. That's an economics discussion that is dead in the water before it even begins.

Caitlin Clark has been, at least as far as I can tell, very smart with her public profile in that she isn’t trying to make her moment anything other than being a good basketball player.
To be a draw at the professional level though, she needs competition, otherwise it’s just the Harlem Globetrotters versus the Washington Generals every night, and you can only watch so many of those games before it gets tedious.
They don’t want minorities like Clark very much money
It doesn’t look good if they pay her very much
Men’s basketball is extremely physical.
That may seem like a lot of money but it won’t seem that way 5yrs later.
IMO It’s not a realistic option.
The WNBA player who was arrested in Russia, I confess I forget her name, made several times more money playing for a Russian team in the off season than she did playing in the WNBA.

Loved watching her NAIL three pointers from waaaay downtown! Perhaps she could go on tour during the off season and have some fun exhibitions with others who can shoot like she does, male or female. Heck, here’s a great idea. In the off-season, organize basketball games with absolutely no contact (other than trying to block a shot, perhaps). AND, the only shots allowed are from 25 feet or more away from the basket.
Meanwhile, since the wacky woke wokesters cannot define “what is a woman?” what does the W in W.N.B.A. stand for? Hmmmmmmmm?
Obviously, there's no market for that.
Patriotic ladies like CC who can actually play basketball?
It's possible.
But the league is going to have to screen out athletes like LeBron James. He's talented but no one likes him.
Think of Jordan, Bird and Magic. That's who you're looking for.

She’s not drawing $20.00/hr. at McDonald’s. GOOD FOR HER!
If I had to live on that little amount I'd be making some serious adjustments to my lifestyle. And I'm retired.
I checked out their roster today and saw that. 3 chicks listed, all black. Last time I saw them was some 20 years ago, in Caitlin’s old home: Carver Hawkeye arena. They played a legit exhibition against Iowa’s men team. IIRC it was a fairly close game and Trotters won. First woman with Trotters was a black chick who then held career female scoring record. One of those who cried “different circumstances” when Caitlin broke it. Don’t know if a white chick has ever played for the Trotters. Or the Generals for that matter. I wouldn’t bet against her pulling off some showmanship worthy of their style games. Don’t know if the Trotter organization would like it, but I’m confident they’d market it well.
