I have a question beyond any particular issue:
How is it good IN GENERAL when a Speaker can block a vote by the full House on any particular issue, particularly when it is clear that such a vote would easily pass?
I fail to see where our Founders intended a 4TH piece of government that essentially has veto power.
The whole idea is that we elect Representatives and Senators who then VOTE ON STUFF. If we don’t like their votes, we don’t vote for them.
Our system is a Republic based on multiple checks and balances.
The power of the Speaker to allow or disallow legislation to come to a vote is a critical check and balance in our political
Like all things it is a double edged sword that can used to good purpose or abused for not so good purposes so electing good people to represent us is of great importance
At the end of the day, we get the people and the government we vote for
I think Johnson is doing a good job playing the crap hand he has been dealt
