VP: The Case for Glenn Youngkin
American Thinker ^ | 04/12/2024 | John Foley

Posted on 04/12/2024 10:09:21 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

As we are waiting for Donald Trump to name his running mate, we here some laudable names such as Kristi Noem, Tulsi Gabbard, Tim Scott, and other prominent figures as potential Vice Presidential material

What do we want in a Vice President? First, the idea that the VP could take the reins should something happen to the President. Given the age of Donald Trump, this is a very legitimate concern. What else? How about winning their home state? Being an asset to the ticket (Kamala fails that test)? Unifying the ticket? Being able to persuade suburban women (the ultimate swing vote nowadays) to vote Republican from the top of the ticket down?

Right now, the consensus is that there are seven swing states. Ideally, the VP should come from one of the swing states to ensure that Donald Trump can put that swing state in the Republican column. There is another swing state that has received little attention.

Virginia.

Current polling has Donald Trump within 3% in Virginia. Popular Governor Glenn Youngkin (58% approval rating, January 4, 2024 Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy) would be a tremendous asset to the Republican ticket. Consider:

1. His record on education will in particular be an asset in bringing back suburban mothers back to the Republican party. He supports parental control, brought a voice to parents concerned about the quality of their children’s education (remember his Democrat opponent stating “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach”?).

2. How he handled abortion in Virginia will put suburban mothers at ease. Remember prior Governor Ralph Northam’s famous appalling quote regarding an expansion of third-term abortions (that did not become law thanks to a Republican legislature), “And when it’s born, we will make the baby comfortable until the mother decides...”?

I would prefer Winsome Sears over Young-Kim. Not gonna happen but I like her more than the guv.

I love the name "Winsome Sears". If she eventually ran against Newsom, we could say "Winsome, Lose-som".

I don’t think anyone should be considered without knowing how they reacted on January 7th, 2021. In the immediate aftermath were they supportive of Trump or jumping on the Deep state bandwagon. So. What do we have with this Governor?

I would take Youngkin or Winsome Sears over Rep. Young Kim (R[ino]-Calif.). At a Town Hall-style meeting a couple years ago, I asked her about the J6 prisoners who were being held without having been charged. She said she knew nothing about that even though Representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene have been bringing this issue up on the House floor.

No. No. No.

Yongkin is too mild mannered. Not a fighter. We don't want to bring a wuss to a knife fight.

Also, President Trump can tutor her. And she has been loyal to him.

JD Vance-Too risky. DeWine would appoint another rino. WE worked too hard for this.

Elise Stefanik-Unknown. They’d pull a Quayle on her.

Kari Lake-Come on! She hasn’t won anything!

Younkin-Not a fighter but a butt kisser at his downhill congratulating his questioners.

YEP. 👍 J.D. Vance and Kari Lake are both fighters with a positive media prescience.

Youngkin has NO charisma, kind of a milquetoast.

I’ll butt in and give you two big ones.

The guy hasn’t secured the state’s elections or protected the state’s budgets from Deep State.

Next!

Noem was for men playing in girl sports before she was against. She put her
finger to the wind, and changed positions after the damage had been done.

"The ONLY PROVEN MAN! out there (uh!, steel spine!) to take over in one second if Trump drops dead is Ron DeSantis."
He's my governor and I think he would be a great President, but the Twelfth Amendment prevents Electors from voting for President and Vice President if both are from the Electors' state.

Don’t know about VP..but Trumps cabinet should be anyone who solidly stood by him..and stood up for him. There must be at least a dozen such individuals?
Anyone else can’t be trusted not to sabotage him...or us for that matter.

.......lol, I read most of Wiki’s words on this subject and really can’t understand them as written so I couldn’t effectively argue either way if I had a gun to my head.

Thanks for pointing the subject out to me though. I wasn’t aware of it.

Trumps cabinet should be anyone who solidly stood by him..and stood up for him.

I agree generally with this sentiment, but remember that Trump's very first Cabinet pick was Jeff Sessions for Attorney General. Sessions was the first person to stand by Trump when he was campaigning, but he was weak-willed and was easily sidelined by the opposition to Trump.

The difference between now and 2016 is that President Trump now has personal knowledge of the players -- something he didn't have in 2016 and relied on the wrong people to advise him. Trump also had a GOP Senate caucus that distrusted him and wouldn't let him freely make nominations.

2024 would be a different landscape for Trump. The Senate should be less of an issue this time (McConnell is becoming feeble, and the politics of defying Trump more dangerous for Senate Republicans this time around).

Trump needs fighters in the Cabinet, but also fighters who are younger and less apt to be burdened with a ledger of "IOUs" that are still owed to lobbyists, donors, and others responsible for putting them into office in the first place.

“I would prefer Winsome Sears ...”

She was born in Jamaica so she is ineligible for the Vice Presidency or Presidency.

Anyone not in this camp. We have lived with these conservative and America hating pricks since Bush 41 and they have destroyed the Republican party and the country along with their good comrade friends across the aisle.
