Nolte: Democrat-Run St. Louis Enters ‘Doom Loop’
Breitbart ^ | 04/11/2024 | JOHN NOLTE

Posted on 04/11/2024 9:43:34 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

“The office district is empty, with boarded up towers, copper thieves, and failing retail,” reports the Wall Street Journal of Democrat-run St. Louis, Missouri. “[E]ven the Panera outlet shut down. The city is desperately trying to reverse the ‘doom loop.’”

Let’s look at the mayoral history of the doom-looping St. Louis, shall we?

Oh, look, there hasn’t been a Republican mayor in St. Louis since — not a typo — 1949. For 75 years, the people of St. Louis have voted for More of the Same, so excuse me if I don’t whip out a violin over all this unavoidable doom looping.

No kidding.

Back in 1977, I was sent TDY to Scott AFB.

Even the taxi driver told me to stay the Eff out of St Loo-wee - if I wanted to stay alive.

Last time I was there a relative picked me up at the airport, and I was remarking on the interesting old buildings you can see from the freeway. “You don’t want to see what’s inside them,” she said...

When I was a kid, downtowns had thriving 10 story department stores, filled office buildings, and lots of restaurants.

Amazon helped kill cities, as did democrat policies of no cash bail, and defunding the police.

Republican Mayors will not fill up the offices.

How do we define a city going under? Bankruptcy? If there is a definite way to define it we can all take bets on which city is next. I’m waiting for The NY Times and DC Post to do the same but they just go online.

We drove through a few years ago and it was awful. We could not get out of there fast enough. The rats are good at winning elections and destroying everything they get control of.

I use to take a bus to St. Louis when I was a kid in the 60s. I had skipped school and spent the day looking around. It was pretty good then.. I also worked at the courthouse in the 70s which is now a museum. I remember the projects were a problem and all of German town had turned black. The beautiful homes around Forest Park are vacant or ruined. I road horses in Forest Park from rental stables when I was 10. Democrats are evil.

Last weekend, I attended the Battlehawks game and the Cardinals game downtown. There's still a lot going on downtown, and there are some thriving neighborhoods. The politics and the lack of police protection is a concern, but the city still has a lot to offer. Of course, it's important to know the boundaries, and you need to always be looking around.

There really isn't much in the way of traffic control; speeding cars, and ignored stop signs and lights are to be be expected. As long as you know that, you can act accordingly.

Why is it pronounced Saint Lou-ee and Louisville is pronounced Loo-ah-ville?

I think Milwaukeestan, WI holds the record for no Republican Mayor for 118 years, now.

I was born there; we escaped in 1970.

Over the past century, Americans learned how to govern modern cities and reduce crime. The reversal of those policies was a deliberate decision made by Democrats. The fact that those Democrats remain in office is a deliberate decision made by voters. None of them deserve your sympathy.

And it's not just St Louis: Baltimore, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and yes, even New York, are going down this path. Yet the idiot voters keep voting for more of the same.

The city of St. Louis is an interesting place. Some time back it divorced itself from St. Louis County because the city didn’t want to pay to improve the hick county. But that move locked the city limits.

A hundred years later and the City would love to be able to tap into all the tax money available in St Louis county, but the county wants nothing to do with it.

The city has lost more than half of its peak population in the last 50 years. As you drive on the interstates you’ll see mile after mile of brick homes—all boarded up and abandoned. Church spires are everywhere, but most of the churches have also been abandoned.

Because of its small geographic size very bad neighborhoods are physically close to nicer places. Go just a few blocks the wrong way and you’ll find yourself deep in ‘Injun’ territory.

you would have to start by ending crime. And since that is their voting base, it will never happen.

For 75 years, the people of St. Louis have voted for More of the Same...

Or, have democrats been stealing elections in these jurisdictions for years? Decades?

Not that hard to believe for me...

Panera has an “outlet”? What do they sell...day old sandwiches...last week’s soup?
