Why is it pronounced Saint Lou-ee and Louisville is pronounced Loo-ah-ville?

Ask a yankee and he will probably say “Lo-ee-vill”. Local dialect and accent will differ. Why New Orleans can become Nawlins. In northern Ohio we say “O-hy-yo”. In the southeast it’s “O-hy-yah”.

I grew up there. Locals say Louis, not Louee.
