Ron DeSantis hosts donors at South Florida casino with an eye toward what's next. The idea of running for president again in 2028 did not come up directly, but attendees said you could "read between the lines."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gathered about 100 top supporters and donors over the weekend at South Florida’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to say “thank you” — and to foreshadow what might be next.

DeSantis supporters see those moves, along with the weekend event at the Hard Rock, as clear signs the Florida governor is once again eyeing a White House bid.

The main event Saturday evening featured DeSantis speaking with Reps. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Thomas Massie, R-Ky.,

He needs to repair his image nationally,” said one of the attendees. “I don’t know anyone is going to be like sending him to Pennsylvania right now, and I don’t know that that would do any good.”

He needs to repair his image nationally,” said one of the attendees.

He sure does. Trump could help with that if the time comes. My opinion is that he got horrible advice and allowed himself to believe he was ready and could make himself more popular than Trump.

Again, a lot of damage to be repaired, but he has been a good governor that has not shied away from conflict with the hard Left.

He’s in for 2028. Good for him. I love that you don’t like it. We don’t want liberals like you voting for him anyway.

Good. Stay in Massachusetts. We don’t want you here. You seem to love everything about Massachusetts. Florida has enough of you dingbats coming here.

One attendee said... “Some on the Trump side quietly say DeSantis is not doing enough, but Florida is a Republican state that Trump will win. What more can they want?”

The person said that there is likely not going to be a moment when DeSantis is any sort of surrogate or prominent voice helping Trump...”

Sorry, but this is BS. ND is also a Republican state and the governor won by 40 points. Doug Burgum seems to know how to come together and campaign for Trump. I wanted to give DeSantis a chance again, but he is being his old ungrateful backstabbing weaselly self again. People will remember this in 2028.

I’ll never vote for that self-serving prig.

*************

I know you won’t and I have a lot of respect for you as a member of FR.

My position is, many Republicans voters who were fired up about DeSantis taking on Trump, won’t be as fired up against him after Trump completes his 2nd term.

I may very well be wrong and will admit it if I am.

[desanctimonious is still campaigning with his daily attempts at media face time press conferences....
But desantis has shown what a lying, manipulative, corrupt, unlikable swamp rino uniparty puppet he is, and he’s got little support except from nevertrumping supporters now.]

This has nothing to do with RINO, uniparty, or any the pet names Trump ad libbed. In general, presidential nominees unify the party by picking the runner-up as VP. JFK did in 1960, Reagan did it in 1980. And these were men of vastly superior political gifts.

Trump has chosen the path of the spoiled, overgrown toddler that he is. His message to the also-rans? Kiss my ring. While the election looks like a lock for him, if he does lose, it will be his sore winner antics that ultimately doomed his comeback.

Trump on day one took the first shot at DeSantis. Had he not been immature. DeSantis probably would appreciate him. Doug Burgum Never appeared in trumps radar.

Ron is a dem in rino clothes. Why else has Ron not secured FL borders in all his years as governor? he keeps letting them in, wander his state causing problems, wander thru his state to others, shipped some around to MV at least there by adding to potential harm to other US Citizens. Ron is not a good person nor governor, he stabs people in the back to get what he (and pants wearer in the relationship wife) wants which is power and money even if it takes trampling Citizens to get it.

FL borders aren’t secured and illegals stopped from entry = Ron is part of the problem, not the solution. Any “good” it seems he does is just distraction from his aiding and helping illegals invade.

"My position is, many Republicans voters who were fired up about DeSantis taking on Trump, won’t be as fired up against him after Trump completes his 2nd term."

And that's why the GOP will never be reformed, because too many will vote for a POS GOP nominee, just to keep a seat Republican. I won't participate in that, because all that does is perpetuate the problem.

Agreed.

DeSantis’ immaturity in not attributing his governorship to MAGA and waiting his turn is exactly why he can’t even fill a ballroom in Tampa anymore.

He went from obvious MAGA successor to unelectable.

I wonder how long folks will cling to author of the worst election campaign in US history.

*my reading comprehension is not the problem.

Wow. What an off the wall post.
I am flabbergasted that a candidate for POTUS should pick the runnerup and not the best VP candidate.

DeSantis is not even the runner up. He won almost no delegates. None of the also ran moved the scale at all and none should be considered for VP.
Your nevertrump goggles are blinding you. A person that would characterize Trump as you have in your last post has sacrificed logic and factual analysis to spew bile.

Donald Trump 1,860
Nikki Haley 93
Ron DeSantis 9
Vivek Ramaswamy 3

Trump doesn’t know the best VP candidate from a hole in the ground. In terms of political skills, he is probably the worst winning GOP presidential candidate the GOP has ever had, and the list of half-baked winners is a long one. His candidacy is where Roy Moore and Michael Mourdock would have gone if they were billionaires - primary winners, but marginal in the general election.

JFK and Reagan were political legends whose shoes Trump is unfit to shine. For them, unifying a fractious party was job one. They understood that each candidate represented an umbrella of factional interests and to leave some of those interests in the cold was to risk losing.

That Trump thinks he knows better is typical Trump egomania. Unfortunately for his rep, his lousy judgement is obvious in the number of handpicked men who have badmouthed him after leaving office.
