Letitia James Questions Trump’s $175M Bond Deal, Judge Schedules Hearing

New York Attorney General Letitia James is questioning whether the surety company covering former President Donald Trump’s $175 million bond is capable of fulfilling its obligation.

On April 1, Trump posted a $175 million bond to prevent James from seizing assets after an appeals court ruled the former president could post the bond amount to cover a civil fraud judgment of $464 million.

The firm that underwrote the bond is Knight Specialty Insurance Company. The company essentially promised to cover the $175 million bond if Trump loses his appeal and fails to pay. Trump paid Knight Specialty Insurance Company a fee and pledged cash as collateral to obtain Knight Specialty Insurance Company’s coverage.

James questions the company’s ability to cover the sum of the bond, a Thursday court filing showed. Judge Arthur Engoron, who determined Trump’s civil judgment, tentatively scheduled a hearing for April 22 to discuss James objections, the New York Times reported:

In a court filing on Thursday, Ms. James noted that Knight was not registered to issue appeal bonds in New York, and so she demanded that the company or Mr. Trump’s lawyers file paperwork to “justify” the bond within 10 days. Ms. James is seeking to clarify whether Knight, which had never posted a similar court bond before aiding Mr. Trump, is financially capable of fulfilling its obligation to pay the $175 million if Mr. Trump defaults.

Even if Knight lacks the funds itself, the company should be able to tap the collateral Mr. Trump pledged.

In a statement on Thursday, a lawyer for Mr. Trump, Christopher M. Kise, slammed Ms. James, calling her case a “baseless and vindictive political crusade” and her objections to the bond an effort “to stir up some equally baseless public quarrel in a desperate effort to regain relevance.”

She’s not part of the “justice” system.
She’s just part of the “get that guy” system.

Poor old gal. She has a huge butt-hurt that she didn’t get the whole $464 million. Or even the Trump Tower.

Like she said she would.

If they prove this company can’t cover such a high bond then it just proves it was excessive. excessive.

Total nonsense. Even IF the entire verdict is upheld and the bond company defaulted, Trump has assets to cover the judgment.

Yes. If no company exists that is qualified to service this bond, then the bond is excessive.

Businesses evolve organically to meet the needs of society. This includes bonding, which reaches a natural equilibrium point based on the sizes of bonds necessary within that society.

If no company can service this bond, then this bond is too far beyond the norms of society that it must be excessive.

Letitia is proving that, it’s not about where the money is coming from, but about getting Trump at any cost.

Where and from whom the money is coming from, should not matter. It’s the same green stuff and it’s the same amount as the court required. Letitia will do whatever it takes to get Trump. She ran on that in 2018 and nothing is going to stop her.

The court (Supreme Court or some other( needs to step in and stop her political ‘get him at any cost’ vendetta.

“James noted that Knight was not registered to issue appeal bonds in New York,”

I had never heard of an “appeal bond” before she went after Trump. Is this a common thing? I figured she fabricated it out of thin air as part of her Trump Vendetta.

I wouldn’t have a problem with an “outside agency” securing the services of a group like MS-13 to “sort out” Lucrezia...

Tisha the Hutt blabbers again, but is it really any surprise? They’d have a problem with it and call it into question if Trump personally sat a briefcase on the table with $175m in cold hard cash. This isn’t about justice. This is about persecuting a political opponent.

So let me guess, the real reason the Fat Stupid POS is all upset is that she is Butt-Hurt that she didn’t get 464 Million Bananas and has to “settle” for only 175 Million Bananas.

Maybe she and Fanni can have a contest to see whose Big Butt hurts the most!!!

I’m sure that Alvin “the chipmunk” Bragg can claim Butt-Hurt also.

This ghettopotamus is going to be even more annoyed when her charges are dropped and she has to cough up the interest on the bond from the public coffers.
