Slavery tribunal? Africa and Caribbean unite on reparations

* Africa and Caribbean join forces in fight for reparations

* African Union to draw up its own white paper on reparations

* Leaders consider push for special tribunal on slavery

* US to decide on a tribunal when "developed and established"

April 4 (Reuters) - Support is building among Africa and Caribbean nations for the creation of an international tribunal on atrocities dating to the transatlantic trade of enslaved people, with the United States backing a U.N. panel at the heart of the effort.

A tribunal, modelled on other ad-hoc courts such as the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals after World War Two, was proposed last year. It has now gained traction within a broader slavery reparations movement, Reuters reporting based on interviews with a dozen people reveals.

Formally recommended in June by the U.N. Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, the idea of a special tribunal has been explored further at African and Caribbean regional bodies, said Eric Phillips, a vice-chair of the slavery reparations commission for the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, which groups 15 member states.

The scope of any tribunal has not been determined but the U.N. Forum recommended in a preliminary report that it should address reparations for enslavement, apartheid, genocide, and colonialism.

Africans should pay themselves for being the ones to capture all of the black slaves.

And what are the numbers? 350K to 500K taken to what's today the U.S.? How is that close to the 5 million taken to Latin America? Or the 10-12 million taken to Asia? Or the unknown number of black slaves that stayed in Africa?

And that's just the black slaves. It's not like there weren't slaves from other parts of the world.

"Return them all immediately and repatriate them"

Remove any modern technology and then repatriate them.

After they collect money from the arabs that traded them, and after I get my reparations from the romans and vikings that enslaved my ancestors, then we’ll talk

I’m fine if those who sold people into slavery are held financially accountable for doing so.

So, how do we identify the Africans who gathered up their neighbors and sold them?

LOL. Good catch.

Jackson County Executive, former Royals 2nd Baseman, Frank White recently made a huge issue out of one of the board members using the figurative expression “calling a spade a spade”. He said it was a dog whistle for racism.

Funny how that knife doesn’t cut both ways.

Without the enthusiastic participation of Black African slave catchers and Black African slave transporters, the African slave trade would not have existed.

The Brown skinned North African pirates enslaved white Europeans for at least 2,000 years, and they enslaved white Americans for about two centuries.

Why stop at the trans Atlantic transport period? Slavery has been around much, much longer than that. This is dumbass notion raised by idiots to pander to a perceived constituency; and, for what end? Just some money?

I recall reading that Kamala Harris’ family were slaveholders.

Excuse me?

I’m sure the African Union wants to kick some money into the pot since their ancestors caught and sold the slaves in the first place. /s

And why in musu don’t they ever mention Islam?

Or why is it that Islam still openly practices slavery in over a dozen nations in Africa today?
