Russian intelligence hit squad behind Havana Syndrome brain injuries of US personnel: report
Newsweek ^ | April 1, 2024 | Snejana Farberov

Members of Russian military intelligence unit 29155, who allegedly have access to microwave or ultrasound weapons, had been placed at the scene of reported attacks that resulted in US personnel suffering health problems, according to a year-long investigation by the Latvia-based Insider in collaboration with CBS’s “60 Minutes” and Germany’s Der Spiegel.

Christo Grozev, the head of investigations with The Insider, told “60 Minutes” that he uncovered accounting records that show a 29155 officer received a bonus for work related to the development of “non-lethal acoustic weapons.”

Unit 29155 has reportedly operated around the world since 2008, and is suspected of carrying out acts of sabotage aimed at destabilizing Western European governments and high-profile assassination attempts targeting the Kremlin’s enemies.

The top-secret squad is said to be headquartered in suburban Moscow and led by Major General Andrei Averyanov, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Operatives have been linked to the attempted poisoning with the nerve agent “Novichok” of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in England in 2018.

The Insider’s investigation allegedly uncovered evidence of Unit 29155’s presence in Tbilisi, Georgia, in the fall of 2021, when multiple American officials and their family members reported suffering unexplained health issues.

The wife of a Justice Department staffer working in Tbilisi told “60 Minutes” she was in her laundry room when she was overwhelmed by a sound that she believed came from the window.

The woman, who asked not to be named, came down with a devastating headache and projectile vomited.

When she later looked at the security footage, she said she spotted an unfamiliar car outside. Nearby was a man she did not know...

Actually, it’s well know that these attacks are being done by FRENCH CANADIANS and this nexus is being covered up by Newsweak. Of course it could be imaginary if the Canadians aren’t doing it,

It was 13 months ago and nothing has changed since US intelligence report I cited except the desire of the Biden regime to push through more money for the failed proxy war in Ukraine.

CIA didn’t believe this was an attack until they figured they might use it for propaganda against Russia.

If Russia was using such a weapon why would they risk exposure “attacking” a bunch of nobodies for no gain?

Not this again.

The microwave bombardment is to energize a listening device.   That is why it is being deployed by the intelligence units, not a hit squad.

People need to take a deep breath and chill out.   This is ancient news and our government has known about this since The Thing was discovered in 1952.

The Thing (listening device)

Nowadays they have gotten so sophisticated that they can bounce sonic waves against a pane of window glass and detect speach in the room.   It isn't rocket science and it isn't some mystery.

Really hard to know who or what to believe. Do I trust the Russians, do I trust the intelligence community, do I trust the Zelenskyy backers, do I trust the media? Serious, none of them can be trusted.

I suspect they were not weapons. They were trying to listen in to conversations . Sound hits a metal surface and makes it vibrate. A microwave bouncing off this surface is modified by the motion. Sub sounds are also broadcast as a reference signal for the microwave return. If the demodulation of the return microwave beam gives a good sub sound signal the audio will also return good.

Who to believe; the Latvia-based Insider in collaboration with CBS’s “60 Minutes” and Germany’s Der Spiegel, or the U.S. Intelligence Agencies. Nw there is a tough one. Perhaps it is just a Newsweak April Fools joke, or a desperate response to Russia homing in on who greenlit the hit on the Moscow Crocus City Hall music venue.

'Havana syndrome' not caused by foreign adversary, U.S. intel finds

By Jonathan Landay

March 1, 2023 5:22 PM CST
Updated a year ago

MCLEAN, Virginia, March 1 (Reuters) - A globe-spanning U.S. intelligence investigation has concluded it is "very unlikely" a foreign adversary is responsible for the "Havana syndrome" ailment that has afflicted U.S. diplomats, spies and other personnel worldwide, according to declassified findings released on Wednesday.

The symptoms of the mysterious ailment, first reported by U.S. embassy officials in the Cuban capital Havana in 2016, have included migraines, nausea, memory lapses and dizziness.

About 1,500 cases now have been reported by U.S. government agencies and departments, including some from this year.

Seven of the 18 U.S intelligence agencies conducted the more than two-year investigation in more than 90 countries, including the United States, where the FBI opened a criminal probe.

The agencies even considered the possibility that extraterrestrials were responsible, but ruled that out, a U.S. intelligence official told reporters in a briefing.

"Most IC (intelligence community) agencies have concluded that it is 'very unlikely" a foreign adversary is responsible," the assessment said. It also found "no credible evidence" that any American foe possessed "a weapon or collection device," including an emitter of electromagnetic energy pulses, that could cause the symptoms.

An advisory group of experts from inside and outside the government last year found that such pulses could have been targeted at some of those who reported symptoms.

"IC agencies assess the symptoms reported by U.S. personnel were probably the result of factors that did not involve a foreign adversary, such as pre-existing conditions, conventional illnesses and environmental factors," the assessment concluded.

Confidence in that conclusion was bolstered by findings that "medical, environmental and social factors can explain" many symptoms, it continued. "We cannot tie a foreign adversary to any incident," said one of two U.S. intelligence officials who briefed reporters. He added that pre-2016 reports of similar symptoms also were examined, but there was insufficient data on those. None of the foreign intelligence services contacted during the investigation reported similar incidents, he said.

WIDE-RANGING INVESTIGATION

The probe involved hundreds of U.S. intelligence officers, other officials, and outside experts, and covered more than 90 countries, the intelligence officials said.

It ranged from examining possible Russian involvement, interviews, reviews of recordings, and developing special sensors, to creating 3-D models of incident locations, identifying individuals and buildings near those sites, and tracking license plates, the assessment said.

U.S. intelligence agencies also tracked individuals, such as arms dealers, around the world through their electronic devices "seeing what they were doing, who they were talking to," said the second intelligence official.

"We had leads that took nine months to unpack," she said.

The probe considered a wide range of possibilities, including "potential correlations with things overheard," she said.

"Yes, we considered extraterrestrials."

The declassified assessment said the seven U.S intelligence agencies that conducted the investigation had varying levels of confidence in the judgments. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the U.S. intelligence community, said agencies would continue studying the incidents and responding to individuals who report them.

A separate Pentagon review also is continuing.

CIA Director William Burns said in a statement that the "findings do not call into question the experiences and real health issues that U.S. government personnel and their family members - including CIA's own officers - have reported while serving our country.

"We will continue to remain alert to any risks to the health and wellbeing of agency officers, to ensure access to care, and to provide officers the compassion and respect they deserve."

Elaborating on how the agencies reached the key finding that foreign involvement was unlikely, the first U.S. intelligence official said that they detected confusion among foreign foes over the issue.

"Many of them think this is a U.S. plot," he said, adding that the agencies were able to learn the "inside thinking" of some adversaries, without identifying them. The White House and the State Department said that providing medical care and support for U.S. employees who report symptoms would remain a top priority. In a sarcasm-laced commentary, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the U.S. intelligence community and media had long suggested Moscow was responsible.

"So, it turns out that our image of an 'evil empire' is crumbling before our eyes?" she wrote.
