U.S. Troops stationed on Taiwan, is not new, news.
Red China is no more “surprised” than we are about communist Chinese agents stationed on U.S. soil.

Questions are, how many are there and are they prepared to take an offensive? If they are a training force to assist Taiwan, then the article is trying to imply something that isn’t true that the US is deploying troops to defend Taiwan.
We have training troops all over the world at locations. This just may be another.

I remember my time in 1968-76 that we ran B-52s to Viet Nam from CCK Airbase on Taiwan. They moved the 52s from Okinawa because the locals complained and were afraid of accidents and bombs. We replaced them with a fleet of KC-135s. Interestingly enough that satisfied them. They weren’t thinking about what a fully loaded KC could do if it crashed on takeoff.
