That’s the question writer Kathryn Jezer-Morton posed in a recent column for New York Magazine’s The Cut.
“In her son’s case, I wouldn’t bet on it,” New York Times columnist Ross Douthat shot back on X.
He’s right.
Jezer-Morton is facing an age-old conundrum of parenthood: Kids rebel against their parents’ politics. Except, in 2024, the classic trend is being inverted.

How? The GOP has always been much farther to the left than it’s voters. Name any state legislature that is to the right, or even the same place as it’s voters. They know who they are picking, and administrators never pick a conservative option.
Haha; I was just reading the thread and your previous comments about Zappa, and now this. I was just about to post it myself. I also got into Zappa and Rush Limbaugh around the same time back in Sacramento. Our whole family got lucky to all be conservatives then, and still now.
My daughter is 21. She and all her friends have the crazy hair colors, have piercings, some tats ( 😡 ), visit Starbucks and coffee bars, some live with their folks, some have kids, they vape, dress kinda goth-ish, use social media, etc....
THEY ARE PISSED. They hate government, know everything is corrupt, hate the medical field AND know “higher education” is a complete joke sprinkled with a waste of time and money. They remember how good they had it under President Trump. They cannot wait to vote for him. Some are voting for Trump again, others for the first time. We didn’t shove conservative politics at our kid....she evolved naturally due to price hikes on EVERYTHING since Joementia (who looks really young, btw 🥴)stole the election. They know it and are acting on it this cycle.
Why would she hide it?
I count 28 R states = 56 R senators if the 17th repealed.

The parody 70’s group Firesign Theater, had a future where the police would arrest you if you were not “hip” enough. You were sent in for “regrooving” as punishment. We were warned.
But I think you are making an unwarranted assumption that all of the 56 would pick Republican Senators.
In the 90s the CA legislature had a Republican majority, and Willie Brown was elect3ed speaker.
You seem to think that the R4epublican party is "conservative." For the people in charge, the purpose of the Republican Party is to serve Democrats.

I think that more younger people can see the difference and HATE it, than many really STUPID older folks are willing to acknowledge!
What people live through and see with their own eyes is more convincing than words.
Sometimes boys use their brain. They’re not just reactionary. When I was 17 Jimmah was running. I didn’t know left from right democrat from republican. So I just listened to Jimmah tell the world all the good he intended to do and all the fixing he intended to do and I held him to his word. And I watched. Before long it became evident that Jimmah had not only fixed nothing but he’d made everything worse and, and this is the important part, he couldn’t fix it. That’s how you know these people are frigid ideologues and not rational people. Imagine your doctor or auto mechanic acting this way. Instant republican.
