Tucker Carlson received legal counsel warning he could be arrested for interviewing Putin

U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson said on Tuesday that his lawyers warned him that the United States could arrest him on sanctions violations for conducting an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

“My lawyers, before I left … said you’re going to get arrested if you do this by the US government on sanctions violations,” Carlson said in an interview with podcaster Lex Fridman.

Carlson said he was happy to face such a risk and rejected the premise of such charges.

Carlson’s head lawyer reportedly said his freedom depended on the questions he asked Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“If you’re seen as too nice to him, you could get arrested when you come back,” Carlson’s lawyer reportedly said.

“You’re describing a fascist country. You’re saying that the U.S. government will arrest me if I don’t ask the questions they want asked?” the American journalist wondered.

Meanwhile, Carlson insists he wasn’t concerned for his safety in Russia at all.

What a steaming pile. Whether or not you liked it, that was a fascinating interview. Lesser journalists, which includes most of them, would not have the common sense, intelligence or charisma to pull it off.

Perhaps this is why Tucker asked very few questions and just let Putin talk.

Arresting journalists for interviewing people is bad optics. That's the only thing which saved Carlson because they surely wanted to.

The USA used to protest that sort of thing in my lifetime, not too long ago. That was before Russia abandoned communism and the USA embraced it.

But we’re supposed to believe Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg had no choice, but to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story..

No one tried to arrest Carlson and the legal advice from his own lawyers is a bit of a non story.

That was before Russia abandoned communism and the USA embraced it.

That's the crux of the matter.

Democrats are now Bolsheviks.

Only if he paid Putin for the interview. Since Putin has hundreds of billions in wealth, that is rather unlikely.

The DOJ has thrown out the whole thing. Until they need a part for propaganda purposes.

Pretty dumb on Carlson’s part for waiving the attorney-client privilege by publicly disclosing legal advice from his lawyers.

“No one tried to arrest Carlson” YET!

The dem’s jackbooted FBI will send 25 armed agents at 4am to arrest him and hold his little kids at gunpoint in their PJ’s on the lawn at the time it best serves the democrat’s interest.

I agree Veto!. We all had our own opinions about stuff before the interview. I wanted to know what Putin thought, or at least would say out loud. Carlson pulled it of just right. I later read and saw an interview with Putin on Russian TV, where he said he was ready to aggressively answer anything Carlson asked.
By letting Putin just talk in longer answers, we got much more insight than had Carlson asked “gotcha” questions that triggered canned answers from Putin.
