Lakewood Church shooter identified after police descend on Conroe home

The shooter who entered Lakewood Church on Sunday with a long rifle and child in tow has been identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, according to multiple sources.
The 36-year-old previously identified as Jeffrey Escalante and had prior arrests for assault, forgery, marijuana possession, theft, evading and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to KHOU's Jeremy Rogalski. Accoring to a Texas Department of Public Safety records search, her criminal report dates back to 2005.
Members of the FBI, Conroe Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Houston Police Department and Texas Rangers arrived at a Conroe home hours after the Sunday shooting to collect evidence and try to piece together the main piece of the puzzle. The shooter walked into the Houston mega-church with a 5-year-old while wearing a trench coat and carrying a backpack that she reportedly announced had explosives inside. Explosives were not found in her possession or in her vehicle.

After Sutherland Springs, church security teams are increasingly the norm, especially in Texas.
At my former church, our pastor started our security team after the Charleston shooting. He took it VERY seriously — and participated in all the training himself. Pastor carrying “in the pulpit” has GREAT situational awareness! We trained regularly and rigorously.
