Mitch McConnell Turns Against Border Bill
Breitbart ^ | 2-5-24 | BRADLEY JAYE

Posted on 02/05/2024 6:57:07 PM PST by bimboeruption

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the shocking decision to recommend Republicans block the advancement of the Senate pro-migration border bill.

That first procedural vote was set for Wednesday. It is unknown if Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will forge ahead, although that is likely.

McConnell cited the overwhelming number of Senate Republicans planning to vote against the measure either on substance or because they wanted more time, according to Punchbowl News.

The longtime Republican leader has spoken in favor of the deal and did not express any personal hesitations about the legislation to his colleagues.

According to Punchbowl, McConnell said the political mood in the country has changed since negotiations began months ago. At that time, McConnell and Democrat leaders agreed to pair foreign aid to Ukraine, of which McConnell is the Senate’s greatest champion, with a border compromise. Democrats, although also generally in favor of aiding Ukraine’s stalemated war against Russia, used McConnell’s fervor for Ukraine aid against Republicans, dangling a proposed border compromise in exchange for aiding the European nation.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) touted his close work with McConnell on the deal. “I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this,” Schumer told reporters on Sunday.

Leaked details of the secretive deal, which McConnell’s chosen Republican lead negotiator Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and other allies denied, were confirmed Sunday upon the bill’s release. The overwhelming opposition led to McConnell altering his plan Monday night.

Even Lankford, who continued championing the deal leading up to Monday night’s Senate Republican Conference meeting, would not say after the meeting if he would vote to move forward Wednesday on the deal he negotiated, according to the Huffington Post.

No kidding.

I just wrote to our two Idaho Senators...

Reject the proposed "immigration / border" bill. This is utterly ridiculous. This is nothing but massive concessions to Democratic policy goals. Just enforce the existing law. Illegal entry means ILLEGAL -- what is so hard about that? Biden undid all of President Trump's great efforts to protect the border in his first days in office. All he has to do is repeal all 60 to 90 of his Executive Orders that revoked President Trump's EOs.

I am LIVID about the lack of any southern border. We are losing our nation at a rapid rate due to the non-existent border. You need to FIX THIS.

I’m not certain our elections matter as it seems like the ones where the people actually make the decision in end up with the political class screaming the most.
If politicians like the results, I’m calling shenanigans.
If the liberals (of both parties) are screaming bloody murder it probably means their games didn’t work out.

His wife told him (and she was told by her masters in china) that he needs to kill the bill if he wants to hold on to his job. She knows the damage is done, and they have enough men in place to blow up every power station and poison every aquifer with fentanyl.

How in the world anyone thought dangling this monstrosity of a border bill would appeal to Republicans?

The Mockingbird Media and the Dems keep calling this a “bipartisan bill” in order to make it sound good.

Someone with a microphone ought to point out that the opposition to it is bipartisan too.

I watch RAV for my news.

Bannon, Charley Kirk and the rest of the talking heads were beating the drum about this bill daily, and they still are.

They generally have their heads up their asses out there, but this is one of the dumbest things the GOP ever negotiated. It is political suicide.

All the people living in flyover country (like me) had to do was watch or listen to the news on a Conservative station like RAV, to know it was Serpent Schumer who was holding a gun to the heads of the GOP members.

The Congressional Republicans see Schumer in action every day. They should have known better.

I think most of them have such contempt for us they don’t care how much they spend. But we got wind of what was in this bill and hammered them, and they saw the writing on the wall: If they were in favor of this monstrosity of a bill, they’d lose their next election.

China Mitch had an epiphany after he saw the mobs of pitchforks.

He still needs to be pitchforked.

What gun did Schumer have? This bill is so ridiculous. It basically enshrines Biden’s disastrous border policies into law. It gives Biden and the Dems political cover for their horrible mistakes, shifting the blame away from Biden and onto the GOP. Why would the GOP even think of doing that?

Border security is the #1 issue among conservatives and independents alike. Let Biden and the Dems eat their own turd sandwich. There is no political sense to this at all. I can see where reasonable people (not saying these are reasonable people) might have disagreements with Ukraine aid etc. But there is no reason to jam that into a border bill. And this border bill is so stupid it should never have made it out of the staff meeting rooms let alone onto paper.

Speaker Johnson has it right. No more of these omnibus packages. Every issue gets its own up or down vote.
