Culinary critics took a bite out of President Biden after an unappetizing “Detroit-style” pizza was served aboard Air Force One on Thursday while Biden was returning from a campaign trip to Michigan.
“The Air Force One dinner tonight after the Michigan trip: Detroit-style pizza,” Bloomberg White House reporter Josh Wingrove posted on X following Biden’s swing-state appearance alongside auto union workers.
But the presidential version of the Motor City’s signature deep dish, rectangular pizza barely had any mozzarella cheese or tomato sauce — and Wingrove merely nibbled at the edges before snapping a picture of the display.
“Mom Joe Biden is trying to lose Michigan on purpose,” X user @umichvoter posted in response.

Was probably served with bottled water from Flint.
Love Detroit style pizza. It is becoming quite popular here on the mid Atlantic Coast. The crust is amazing if cooked right. My go to pizza now.
Detroit to DC is about 1 hour, 45 minutes. Isn’t that too short for meal service?
Reporters should get the standard plastic tumbler of ice and soft drink with a tiny bag of pretzels.
Why are they on Air Force One at taxpayer expense anyway?
It truly is! Crisp on the bottom, thick and airy inside with that crisp cheese border on the edges. Mmmmmmmm...
It's my current favorite, too, especially since it's so easy to make at home with the authentic blue steel pan. But I also have a great fondness for the St Louis-style thin cracker crust!
No. That is Chicago style. Detroit style (Buddies/Jets) is a a deep dish where the crust is lightly fried in oil in the pan as it cooks. Cheese is on top of the sauce.
“You promis’ me an’ ikescream sammich! [This ain’ ikescream. *sniff*]”
