World leaders congratulated Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for a historic third presidential term even as President Biden warned that the U.S. will not endorse independence for the island.

"We do not support independence," Biden told reporters when asked for comment on DPP candidate William Lai’s victory over the rival Koumintang (KMT) party following Saturday’s election.

Lai, who also goes by his Chinese name, Ching-te, declared victory after a tightly contested election saw him beat KMT candidate Hou Yu-ih, the mayor of New Taipei City. Beijing had not declared a clear preference for any candidate, but Chinese officials framed Lai as "dangerous."

"We do not support independence," Biden told reporters

Here we go Buckaroos.

I have repeatedly said the pervert bag of shit is gonna sell out Taiwan.

Here he is in all his communist party treachery.

If china makes the grab we will be seeing abacuses in Walmart to add up the grocery bill.

No more computer chips for the US, we are mere cattle for Xi Jinping.

The prog CCP goons will be waiting for anyone to get out of line so they can "evacuate" them to a communist, uh, democrat reeducation camp.

Taiwan also doesn’t allow absentee voting, if you want to vote you have to show up in person to vote

Isn’t it interesting we are supporting Ukraine with billions of dollars to support their borders and independence which is anything but a democracy but refuse to support Taiwan real democratic government in their independence

Yes.

It’s irrational.

"We do not support independence,"

Too late. The Taiwanese have already had it for 75 years.

The US doesn’t support independence.
But we don’t exactly support reunification either.

Our policy towards Taiwan and China is Confucius.

He always considered Taiwan a part of China and his government was merely the legitimate government of China in exile.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Really?

THe 1st American Volunteer Group under Chennault says you lie!So does Madam Chang who graduated from Wellesley College.

Taiwan pursued independence from THe Peoples Commie Repubic of China ab initio and was recognized as an independent nation from the PRC internationally.

Is that why Chiang chose to keep the official name of the government “the Republic of China” and during his entire reign maps in Taiwan showed China under its pre-1949 borders with the official capital still in Nanjing? Is that also why the government in Taipei held China’s seat at the UN until the 1971? Chiang could have declared Taiwan a separate country and never did because the goal was always retaking the mainland on their terms. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about if you think that Chiang would support the DPP which is made up the remnants of his political opposition he didn’t have shot.

We are Americans. We fight for liberty and justice FOR ALL. Not red Chinese diaper communism!

Where was all of this when our government was signing trade deals would result in sending our manufacturing, technology, and money over there? Many who supported those trade deals were right here on FR, and many Republicans supported those trade deals.

We talk the talk about standing up for freedom, but China's record breaking infrastructure and military build up was paid for with our consumer dollars. Why? So we could save $.10 on communist made paint brushes? How is that working out?

Using these three points I can make the statement that the US will not interfere with the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, which includes that country resolving the question of Taiwan as a matter of internal affairs. For the US and China sovereignty for Taiwan then disappears.

3. That both sides will have "respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity" and to not interfere in each other’s "internal affairs".

4. The Chinese Government emphasizes that "the question of Taiwan is China’s internal affair".

5. The US Government states that it "attaches great importance to its relation with China", and reaffirmed that it has "no intention of infringing on Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity", or on interfering in the internal affairs of China, nor will it be pursuing a policy of “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan.”

For these last couple years, the US Naval Institute Proceedings has published articles under the heading of American Sea Power often using the scenario of a war against China in 2026. That seems reasonable for the Navy discuss what might happen, if some administration finds war an option.
