SAN LUIS, Arizona (Reuters) - When Michele Pena ran as a Republican candidate for the Arizona state legislature in a heavily Hispanic and Democratic-leaning district on the Mexican border, few believed she could win.
Pena, the daughter of a Mexican immigrant, was a school volunteer and single mother with no political experience. She began with a campaign budget of just $1,600. She nonetheless scored an upset victory last year in the district, which is separated from Mexico by miles of border wall built under former President Donald Trump to keep out "bad hombres".
"Hispanics go hard Democrat there all the time. But they saw me as a regular person, and when we got talking, a lot of people told me things aren't going well," the 49-year-old said in an interview from her home city of Yuma.
The predominant concerns for many voters were high food and gas prices, job prospects and the quality of schools rather than issues around minority rights, she added.

Most Hispanic Americans are not rabid leftists. Sure, the majority still vote Democrat, mostly over immigration issues, but most are not buying into the LGBT, woke agenda that infects the entire party.
Three terms of Obama demonstrate that and more. F/N alien.
F/n criminal
That’s because so many of them are spoiled Karens.
Ahh.
The voter fraud “meme” appears again from the butt hurt Democrat/ GOP wing of the establishment.
Trump is inevitable.
Deal with it clown.🤡
I believe many Hispanics, either illegal, or legal nd green carded, fled oppressive socialist if not outright communist regimes. They will have a natural didtaste for socialism in any clothing.
Additionally, many Spanish peoples are Cathoics, or are political conservaties of one kind or another.
I think Biden’s Wide Open Non-Border will caome back to bite ‘em on the butt. Ds are assuming they’ve imported a flood of reliable D voters. I think this will be eventually vieweed as a Great Miscalculation.
(I hope.)
I agree with your assessments.
I agree. Maybe they will turn on the Deep State! LMAO!
KARMA!
How does pointing out that 2020 election was stolen make me part of the “butt hurt Democrat/ GOP wing of the establishment.”? I assure you I am not and I support DJT completely.
“Which is why we have to concede on the abortion issue.”
No. Just no. They’ve killed 62 million already. No concessions.
Folks,
All my tenants are Hispanic. I wear my Trump hat all the time. A couple have told me they are going to vote for Trump. Had some good discussions.
If we don’t teach them, they aren’t going to learn.
Use your outdoor voice, be bold.
Many of the illegals are now African, Chinese, or other ethnicities from the other side of the world.
That’s easy pal. It’s the usual B.S. you guys post knowing your GOP Clown inst going to win the primary.
Never heard of ya before, and doubt you’ll be posting again.
Good afternoon Sweet Prince.😂
You sure Crack yourself up. Have anotherBud Light.
Thanks, Peter, ... being Californian has acquainted me with Hispanic Culture and the ability to have commonality in our backgrounds.
FYI, Richard Baris’s polls flagged this over nine months ago. He has been tracking steady movement to Trump and even some to Rs (not the same).
This could be one of the unintended consequences of all the illegal criminals being admitted, as they are NOT surefire DemoKKKrat voters.
I can’t agree with the broad brush statement against women,
However I remember that Ann Coulter (I’m not a fan) wrote:
“That is simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950 - except Goldwater in ‘64 - the Republican would have won, if only the men had voted.”
Thanks, LS, I was unaware of those polls.
Which may explain why pimps continue to exist when I believe they should be exterminated as a public service.
I’m female, Caucasian and my ancestors came to live on land in what is now Texas and NM-in the late 1780’s. I’m also Hispanic, learned Spanish at home as a child and i speak Spanish as a 2nd language. I also read and write it reasonably well-so do most my relatives, even though we have been away from Latin America for well over a century...
I’m surprised to see how some freepers here don’t get that many of us of Spanish ancestry have been American natives longer than they have. or that many native Texan Hispanics do not vote democrat and are MAGA-and loathe and despise mojados and do not want them here. It would appear that some here need to get to know some of us better before they start generalizing about Hispanics-or italians, lebanese, Hungarians or any other ethnic group that has been in America for any considerable length of time...
