The snubbing of Florida State University’s football team from the college football playoff on Sunday has gone political, with Donald Trump saying disgruntled fans should blame Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for the team being left out of the final four.
In a post to Truth Social, the former president said FSU was “treated very badly” by the playoff’s selection committee, which voted to allow two one-loss teams—the University of Texas and University of Alabama—in over the undefeated FSU.
“(FSU) become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs,” Trump wrote, omitting that FSU is the first undefeated power-five team to be left out. “Really bad lobbying effort…Lets blame DeSanctimonious!!!”

Exactly. I’m conservative and don’t care who wins a title that probably won’t mean a thing to 99% of the voters a year from now.
Only a month ago, while teaching the adult sunday school class on the subject of real life priorities, I asked if anyone knew a team that won a national college football title during the first decade of this century. All 19 people didn’t even try to answer that question.
And part of what inspired me to include that in my study of priorities was the testimony of a former high school football coach in Illinois. He had a team that won a state title 40 years ago, but as years passed by, he saw the negative impact that excessive sports emphasis can cause, and quit coaching. He saw kids that lost meaning in life because playing football ended for them, and for years after longed for that ‘high’ but couldn’t find it again.
Another IL coach that was a very successful high school basketball coach quit because he felt the off season, especially summer, shouldn’t have organized tournaments nearly every weekend. Families were suffering because of the obsession of maybe one kid and/or parent. He especially was dismayed at the sunday tournaments keeping families away from church.
Kind of makes you wonder about presidential contenders that endorsed him twice.
Trump’s a sports guy. He owned a USFL team, Trump is not the typical politician, and no he doesn’t act “Presidential”. So what?

Them snubbing FSU was a political decision silly. In the College Football Playoff era, no undefeated Power 5 conference champion has ever been left out of the top four.
If they did it because of a 3rd string quarterback, well the second string quarterback who is pretty good would have been back in time. So, there reasoning is faulty. Plus plenty of great defensive teams have won with an average offense.

I’m a rabid Longhorn fan of 50+ years but I think it’s absurd to screw over FSU given their perfect no loss season

What I understand is ridemakers broken leg has a lot to do with it. The team wouldn’t be the same without this important quarterback.
it’s just a ridiculous thing to do because it doesn’t matter. If you have to crack on DeSantis, do it on something substantial.
College football is a government instituted activity as a majority of the schools accept federal taxpayer money. That’s why college football is a filthy, corrupt sport. Cut all funding of colleges and universities until they get their act together.
Football is metaphorical war that prevents bloodletting between the City States and the states in general.

Does anyone care that ALL OF THE ABOVE is patently UNCONSTITUTIONAL? The Constitution gives NO authorization to the feds to fund or meddle in university activity.
Filthy, corrupt sports do not threaten our country but filthy, corrupt, and UNCONSTITUTIONAL federal government is the GREATEST THREAT to our country, lives, liberties, and free pursuits.

I just think he needs to be neutral on a matter like that, which he couldn’t control anyway. Just say, the powers that be have spoken, and may the best team win.

I do love when someone actually gets offended by the idea that Donald Trump might be called by a “kids version” of his actual first name, in response to a Trump post where Trump is using a made-up name for his political opponent.
BTW, what exactly is the “negative” being called out by “sanctimonious”? Is Trump saying DeSantis is too religious? Supports to many conservative religious values? Is too hard on abortionists? Was opposed to Trump allowing states to shut down and fine churches during COVID?
Of course he won’t — Donald Trump is too scared to show up on a stage with anybody who might actually call him out or show him up.
I think it’s more that Trump is not the typical adult, and often does not act like an adult.
Now that’s a dream filled statement that dropped from the bull with a wet soggy plop.
