Black Friday e-commerce spending popped 7.5% from a year earlier, reaching a record $9.8 billion in the U.S., according to an Adobe Analytics report, a further indication that price-conscious consumers want to spend on the best deals and are hunting for those deals online.

There is the key right there. With costs of product up 50% to 100% of course there is going to be a higher gross. But did they get the same amount of product for those dollars?
Absolutely not. This is how they twist the narrative. Just like jobs being up, sure because every one is needing to get a second job to get by and maintain.

A McDonald’s hashbrowns, Egg McMuffin and small coffee cost me 11 bucks or so this past Wednesday.

I only use credit cards. My card gets me back over $1000 in cash each year. I’m never late in paying in full. So no interest

That’s the smart thing if you have no idea what to get anyone. My dearly departed aunt always bought some small usable gift, such as a pair of gloves, socks or whatever just so there would be a gift from her. Inside the wrapper was always a wad of money.
I’ve gotten many a gift over the years that I had zero use for. And the same goes for what was given to others. So we just quit buying gifts and give money in the same tradition the aunt did, along with a small simple gift.
The bottom line is Christmas is not about Christ, it’s about spending money you don’t have to buy gifts no one wants. And some allow the social pressure of Christmas to get them deep into debt just buying all that useless crap for others to make them feel good.
Paying it off monthly is fine, the majority of cc users don’t and then end up maxing out one card and then getting another.. there will be massive amounts of bankruptcies coming.

The real holiday purchasing statistic will be from Black Friday to the end of the White Sales in January. About a six week span.

A dollar yesterday is worth more than today.
The actually bought a lot less. 100% inflated prices with only a 7% increase is sales? That tells me sales were down 93%.
I can make up facts just like they do.
I guess I’m not reading this the same way the rest of you are. This is not about an increase in consumer spending, it’s about an increase in e-commerce spending. More online shopping and fewer in-store purchases.
Some of the rest of you is more correct.
Here in Allentown, I purchased a 20 piece chicken nugget and large fries (no drink) for $14.38.
The McDonalds employees were ALL from third world countries, and few spoke English. Most of them were a mix of black and Hispanic mongoloid. They were dirty and unkept. A far cry from the 1950’s McDonalds dining experience. Will not be going there again.
The USA has gone to hell.
It took 25 years to finance the 10 billion dollar Webb space telescope. Shoppers spent that in one day buying Chinese junk.
