Besides being stupid, the move is kind of pointless. Let’s say they rename the Baltimore Oriole to the Eastern Oriole. The first sentence in the bird’s description will read, “The Eastern Oriole, formerly called the Baltimore Oriole...”, so the original name will live on forever.

The only issue i can see is that many state and federal laws and documents list the names of birds in terms or environmental protections and controls. If this Private organization wants to change names, I don’t think they have the right or the power to just do so and expect state and federal governments to just change a whole lot of legislations willy nilly just because some private group snaps their fingers!
