Senate expected to vote on top roles for Navy, Air Force, Marines as Tuberville continues blockade

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer on Wednesday is expected to advance President Biden’s nominee to serve as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps after insisting for months that he wouldn’t schedule individual votes for military positions over Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s blanket hold on promotions.

Mr. Schumer, New York Democrat, also filed cloture motions on Adm. Lisa Franchetti for chief of naval operations and Gen. David Allin for Air Force chief of staff.

The last-minute move by Mr. Schumer came Tuesday after Mr. Tuberville, a Republican, obtained 16 signatures needed for his own cloture petition for Lt. Gen. Christopher Mahoney to serve as the Marine Corps assistant commandant.

Golly, gee. If the Senate worked 5 days a week like everybody else, they could get through these nominations.

But they like to do EVERYTHING by unanimous consent, and when one Senator (horror) doesn't consent, then their WHOLE YEAR is ruined!

Just call the roll on these, Senator Schumer! You're showing that you can do that WHENEVER YOU WANT!

This is really what the senator wanted all along. Individual votes per candidate instead of mass candidates voting one time like the other 245 years.

Note that he only moved because Tuberville actually filed for cloture on one of the nominees, thus proving that Tuberville wasn’t the one holding up votes.
