Harvard/Harris Poll: Some Americans Who Describe Hamas Attacks as ‘Genocidal’ Say They Were Justified Anyway
National Review ^ | October 24, 2023 | Philip Klein

...Noah already highlighted the Harvard/Harris poll showing a slight majority of younger Americans siding with Hamas, but I wanted to flag another eye-opening finding in the survey: A statistically significant group of them who describe the October 7 attacks as “genocidal” nonetheless support them.

Specifically, when asked, “Do you think that the attacks on Jews were genocidal in nature or not genocidal?” 62 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 said yes. However, when asked, “Do you think the Hamas killing of 1200 Israeli civilians in Israel can be justified by the grievances of Palestinians or is it not justified?” a 51 percent to 49 percent majority said the attacks were justified.

To repeat: Sixty-two percent say the attacks were genocidal, but only 49 percent say the genocide against Jews wasn’t justified.

Unfortunately, it was not limited to this age group.

Among 25- to 34-year-olds, 71 percent said the attacks were genocidal, but only 52 percent said they weren’t justified; among 35- to 44-year-olds, 72 percent said they were genocidal compared to 61 percent who said they weren’t justified.

Only after age 45 do the numbers start to become more rational, with more people saying the attacks weren’t justified than saying they were genocidal.

There are two ways to interpret this finding. One is to think there are millions of Americans who are okay with genocide against the Jews. Another explanation is that there are millions of people who don’t know what “genocidal” means.

Or, as Sonny Corleone put it, “Did you go to college to get stupid?“

I heard about this poll today on a local early morning AM radio talk show and did not see it posted here on FR. If anyone wonders just how far we've fallen then this article will give you a clue.

A deep affinity for Muslims and Islam and a hatred for Jews and Israel is a pillar of Marxism. AND many, many Americans have been deeply indoctrinated in Marxism from their college and university days.

Oddly, many don't know it as Marxism...and they aren't aware of the fact that they have been indoctrinated. They just know that they hate Jews and Israel (despite many of them being Jewish) and will fight to the death for liberal causes without knowing why.

Follow-up on my last comment.

As an example of indoctrination, I know some lesbians (never been with a man) that are fanatical defenders of abortion rights. They aren't feminists and in some cases don't even have friends who are straight females.

I asked one why she was such a defender of abortion rights given that no one in her circle of friends had any--as in ZERO--chance of getting pregnant. After stumbling about for an answer, she admitted she wasn't quite sure why...it just felt like the right thing to support.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Basing your idea of right and wrong on your feelings may seem like the intuitive thing, and that is exactly what most people do. But a person can want what is evil as much as what's good, and thinking that whatever ever feels good is right and what feels bad is wrong is how we are fooled into doing evil things, thinking they are good. Correctly discerning between good and evil is a much harder thing that includes by necessity denying your own selfish impulses, which directly clashes with today's entitlement-minded people.

Generations of programming people that certain groups aren’t really people and they deserve to die is paying off.
Also the continued importation of people and cultures that don’t value life is showing its head
The promotion of the lowest common cultural denominations, the urbanization and coarseness of dialouge and mores is almost complete.

Protect yourselves and your people, things are going to get bad.

It will continue to get worse. Most Americans still support Israel. Americans simply aren’t stupid enough to believe the only way to go after the animals responsible 10/7 is by the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians. I support Israel but see that continuing down this road will result in the destruction of Israel. The PR nightmare has united the entire Islamic world and a large majority of the non Islamic world against Israel. When this started Netanyahu only had 35% support among the voters of Israel. Assuming Israel survives, Netanyahu is a dead man walking politically.

They third question should have been along the lines of *Why do you support genocide?*

And watch the fun begin.

Israel does not indiscriminately bomb innocent civilians.

Not to mention that they warned those innocent civilians weeks ago to clear out because they would be taking military action.

If they chose to stay, that’s on them.

If Hamas did indeed prevent them from leaving, that’s then on Hamas.

Israel doesn’t have to do ANYTHING to turn people against her. It is the default option of the muslim world, and pretty generally common for the rest of the non-muslim world.

The only thing that is going to satisfy those who hate Israel is its non-existence.

Cognitive dissonance is holding mutually exclusive thoughts at the same time. The only examples I’ve ever encountered were liberals explaining their views. If anyone has a non-political example, I’d be grateful to read it. Thanks in advance.

...the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians.

Israel does not do this. Israel does not target civilizans. Israel has, and has always had, a policy of avoiding, whenever possible, civilian casualties. This is often to the detriment of their own forces. Their bombing campaign of Gaza is targeted and precise. There is no "indiscriminate" carpet bombing as we saw in WWII and other conflicts.

Who actually targets and kills civilians? The muslim terrorist organizations. That is what Hamas did on Oct 7.

I know the media propaganda line. It is sad to see it repeated here.

War crimes are never justified.

Hostage taking is a war crime.

Rape is a crime. Rape by combatants is a war crime.

Terrorism delays the peace process.

Terrorism will make it impossible for Palestinians to get their grievances resolved.

It is theoretically possible that a lesbian could be raped and become pregnant.

Religion provides a short cut. The trouble is this: was your particular religion actually written by God? Eventually you have to depend on your own mind and reason even if that means you are fooling yourself.

They assume these mantles of “supreme esteemacy” to the extent that anything they care to assert is not mere opinion but facts of life. They jump in on cue, they shout down, shut down, cancel and even murder people who have opposing views or views that don’t include their own when in so many cases, their views are such qualified failures (as opposed to unqualified successes) that we have to slap the future right out of their hands.

The Palestinians in Gaza have their own state. They abused their statehood.

On the other hand, the grievances of West Bank Palestinians are often substantial.

By fostering fierce hatred, Palestinian educators make it impossible to resolve those grievances.

I also question the innocence of a great many Gazan civilians, in view of the fact that quite a few “civilians” decided to cross the border along with the Hamas terrorists on 10/7 and kill some Jews themselves. Lots and lots of these “innocent civilians” actively support Hamas.
