Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) quietly has directed the Senate's Sergeant at Arms to no longer enforce the chamber's informal dress code for its members, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The new directive will allow Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who tends to favor gym shorts and hoodies over the business attire traditionally required in the chamber, to linger on the Senate floor before and after votes.

Every Republican senator should show up wearing sweaty hoodies and gym shorts or yoga pants—maybe even a backwards or sideways ball cap to mock this undiginified a$$hole.

I think he may have some fine motor impairment also that makes putting on a suit and tie a challenging, time-consuming process. Slipping in to gym shorts and a hoodies is much easier.

“The Senate becoming San Francisco”

Will they loosen the rules so senators don’t have to leave the floor to take a leak?

Rules are so old-fashioned.

I guess I could see a slight relaxing of the rules as it relates to Senators who are disabled or injured.

There’s no reason why Fetterman couldn’t wear a pair of dress pants and an open neck dress shirt or even a polo shirt.

Allowing him to dress like a ‘hood rat cheapens the institution of the Senate.

“Allowing him to dress like a ‘hood rat cheapens the institution of the Senate.”

It is the behavior of the Senators themselves that cheapen the institution, not what they wear. It is hard to imagine changing the dress code will erode the institution any more than its current membership does by being present.

As for the end of the dress code, it is one more instance of standards being eliminated. A society with no commonly accept standards of performance and behavior is uncivilized and uncultured. We are living through the death of western civilization. When there is no such thing as civilized behavior, barbarism and anarchy rule.

In the 1960’s in our public schools we were not allowed to wear blue jeans, sneakers, or polo shirts. There were some important life lessons taught and learned, never to be forgotten.

Fetterman does not look anything like a gangster rapper. He looks like a slob. No offense to actual slobs.
