Migrant families flooding into NYC schools

Hundreds of migrant families continue to flood enrollment centers every day with hopes of getting their kids into city public schools by the start of classes next week.

More than 60 migrant students and their parents showed up daily last week to enroll at each of the busiest Department of Education Welcome Centers, on Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica and Queens Plaza North in Long Island City.

With 12 enrollment center across the city, more than 400 new students are enrolling citywide on a given day, insiders estimate.

That does not count those registered at dozens of migrant shelters, where DOE workers are being paid overtime to go and enroll kids.

“It’s a disaster,” one enrollment staffer said of the hardest-hit centers. “Nothing is going smoothly.”

One frustrated principal griped that no plans are being communicated to staff. “I mean, there’s a plan from me, but not one from the DOE.”

In a message to enrollment workers on Friday, Trevonda Kelly, first deputy in the Office of Student Enrollment, acknowledged the “increase in the number of families,” but urged, “Please don’t put much focus on long lines. Instead, keep doing what you’re doing to keep the lines moving.”

Another recently arrived mother from Ecuador told The Post that her children were assigned schools far away from each other and it would be impossible for her to coordinate pickup and drop-off — and find work as well.

“It is remote from where I live and I want it closer so I can look for a job,” the mom of three said.

Schools Chancellor David Banks said at a briefing this week that just this summer, 500 more asylum seekers — in addition to approximately 19,000 since the start of the migrant crisis — have so far entered the school system.

How many of these students are 35 years old?

NYC, you have a problem, I do not. And the mother from Ecuador can just as easily go home to closer schools.

How much is the new CrapVid “wage” due to unchecked immigration? I suspect quite a bit.

Democrats historically hate educating minorities. All part of the plan.

Thank Plyler v. Doe Scotus decision of 1982.

In 1975, the Texas Legislature revised its education laws to deny enrollment in their public schools to and withhold any state funds for the education of children who were not “legally admitted” to the country.

(Brennan, J.) By a 5–4 vote, the Court concluded that the Texas legislation violated the Equal Protection Clause.

Oh.

(Burger, C.J.) The dissent asserted that any issues concerning whether or not to admit children of undocumented immigrants into public schools should be dealt with by the legislature as opposed to the judiciary. The dissenting Justices agreed that “it would be folly—and wrong—to tolerate creation of a segment of society made up of illiterate persons.” However, they concluded that such a decision should be made by the political branches because it is a policy issue inappropriate for the Court to undertake.

A decades-long Leftist Scotus has done unimaginable damage to these United States.

Over 60 students a day at each of the 12 enrollment centers + people from the school are going to the large shelters to enroll the children there.

It sounds from the article that they expect 19,000 new enrollees, many of whom will be here illegally.

The number of students in NYC public schools hovers around 1 million, so a 0.2% increase.

It would be interesting to see similar numbers from states nearer the border....

I misread that part of the article. They had already enrolled 19,000 illegal immigrants children: these are new ones.

Maybe 0.225 to 0.25% of the total NYPS student population.

No doubt. But the same can be said of many aspects of the 14th Amendment and the words the writers chose to use. “Any person” means any human as opposed to “any citizen” or “any lawful inhabitant”. The 14th also gave us birthright citizenship for anyone born in the U.S. when it was clearly meant to guarantee citizenship to freedmen, not illegal border crossers. And now it is being cited by dems to try and disqualify Trump from further office.

Educate yourself. Probably ninety-five percent of Scotus 14A-based rulings are constitutional nonsense. This 1977 book is the definitive source on the 39th Congress' framing of the 14th. It enraged Leftists for a decade.

VP Harris’s job as border czar was worse than Nicholas II as actual czar.

Guys we need to stop laughing at NYC and start demanding that these human debris return back to their own crapholes.

NYC is still part of America and only Legacy Americans should be taken care of.

Just amazing how fast city officials solve the homeless crisis when it comes to foreign infiltrators.

Oh, yes, it is a total problem to have this influx, and the students are scattered through the schools instead of all in one place, so the logistics will also be very difficult; however, I was thinking about all the border states and other places less important than NYC having had to deal with this problem for so many years and possibly at greater percentages.

——More than 60 migrant students——

It would seem the migrant is a trickle, perhaps just a drip rather than a flood

The real problem is the migrants are not Black

New York public schools actually have fairly ok scores on standardized tests. Big city Texas public schools don’t. Dallas public schools 7th graders only had a 14% pass rate on the math STAAR test. The scores are so bad that it’s hard to even find them on the internet. New York City had 38% of 8th graders pass math in 2022. New York is freaking out because they know exactly what will happen with an influx of completely uneducated, non-English-speaking children. These children are mostly illiterate in their native language, too. The leftists advocate for these stupid, destructive policies, but they don’t want to have to deal with the effects of them.

To Texas, it’s a short swim across the Rio Grande.
