Ignore the naysayers. Until after the hurricane last year I paid close attention to your threads. Had to move my folks from Ft. Myers last October. Their evacuation to West Palm Beach almost killed them. They were in their 90s. Mom is still with us, but in Ohio near my sister now.

Our super-elderly family members surely don’t tolerate change very well. Very sorry to hear about the challenges relocating your family from Ft. Myers following Ian. I can only imagine. Thank you for checking in today.

I don’t like change much, anymore, myself.

Most likely landfall is between Steinhatchee and St Marks in a largely uninhabited marshy coastline but storm surge will be considerable around Cedar Key, horseshoe beach and Steinhatchee. Landfall looks to be around sunrise tomorrow morning. I would expect no worse than high end cat-3 or low end cat-4 at peak, don’t think this has time to ramp up to cat-5. Will be near 60 mph TS along Georgia and SC coasts later.

You're very kind... these graphics kinda show the main steering influence:

It's a front that (finally) broke the heat dome over the central US. It will keep Idalia from getting into North Carolina.

Once pushed out to sea, though, that front is apparently going to pass by the hurricane (or at least prevent it from moving further north), and that may allow it to re-organize and cause mischief early next week. Stay tuned.

If there was anything close to a good place for a hurricane to make landfall in Florida, this area looks to be as good as any.

Fortunately, landfall is in a sparsely populated part of the Florida coastline, unlike Ian, which almost had a direct hit on Fort Myers.

That's park land in there and there are no "beaches" like we're used to. It's scrubby swampy right down to the Gulf. There are a few towns in there that are in for trouble. Steinhatchee, Suwanee (waaaay down upon the Suwanee Riveeeer!) and Cedar Key should be deserted about now. Perry is a small city just inland from expected landfall that is going to have a rough morning tomorrow.

I left Chiefland this morning about noon and am currently staying at a motel 6 in Valdosta..

I’m hoping my 5th wheel survives but if it doesn’t, it’s fully insured for replacement value..

It is. And just south of Naples into the Glades ain't bad, but Key West people might dispute that. But even they know that Duval street needs a good cleaning more often than not.

currently staying at a motel 6 in Valdosta..

Thanks for checking in. Note the NHC forecast track maintains Idalia as a hurricane after it crosses the state line into GA. Be prepared for power outages. Park a good distance from trees and other unstable structures.

Stay safe!
