When asked to name the United States president who has done the best job over the past 40 years, a majority of Democrats name Barack Obama. Republicans, by contrast, are divided between a president who served in the 1980s – Ronald Reagan – and one who is currently running to return to office, Donald Trump.
About four-in-ten Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (41%) say Reagan has done the best job as president over the past 40 years. Slightly fewer (37%) say Trump has done the best job, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in July.

“majority of Democrats name Barack Obama”
A boat load of my democrat friend switched to Republican by the end of Bammy’s first term.
Pedo Joe switched a die hard I know about 4 months ago.
I would.
DeSanctimonious Online Influencers are Sad over this!
I just had a comment about this a few weeks back.
Generally speaking, it should be that the best presidents “do nothing”.
Exceptions, of course - Washington having to carve out a niche and keep things grounded in uncertain territory, Lincoln (though I don’t like him) with the division, FDR perhaps for what he “did” in uncertain times also.
But I suspect the “unknown” presidents who are usually denigrated for not doing much actually should be much higher on the list!
I would rank Trump higher if he did not botch the handling of the coronavirus pandemic. His judgment isn’t too bad but he messed up the political aspect of it. That’s why Joe Biden is the POTUS today.
37% are delusional.
;-)
Though honestly in that short span I don’t know how I could put Bush I and II above Trump.
Probably didn’t help that he really failed to do anything about the Endless Riots.
Nixon ended the Vietnam War.
And he went to China so we don't have to worry about a war with them anymore. Yeah we're not best buds but they're not like North Korea.
It's not too bad where I live because I'm in a rural area, fortunately. But all the big cities are a mess now.
If Trump went big and cracked down hard on all of them. It may have paid off. Maybe.
I would agree with those views of Carter and Reagan
Stay out of the Bushes.
Neither of them hold a candle to Calvin Coolidge and James Madison
I think it’s possible those on his side felt let down. Sit home on election day if Trump is going to allow all this liberal garbage.
I know he had limits, but riots nationwide going on weeks? There is no reason you couldn’t insist on the big guns. TRUE “insurrection”.
Local cops and Feds are not to be trusted obviously. But Trump could have called in the National Guard. They were patriotic (or at least back in 2020) and they would have answered the call to pacify this country from widespread civil disorder.
Instead of using Feds in Portland, call up the National Guard in Oregon.
I don't worship any politicians and that includes Trump.
“That’s why Joe Biden is the POTUS today.”
Pedo Joe is president becuz of voter fraud and they’re gearing up for 2.0. (OMG!!! COVID IS BACK. We need mail-in ballots!)
JFK wanted to co-opt the Derp State of his time, not end it. He also failed to act to end Castro’s reign of terror early on. A 1961-69 President Nixon would’ve ended Castro.
Are we viewing presidents through partisan political lenses, or are we viewing them based on their handling and impact on historic events? Or some combination?
