After a month of scorching heat across the globe, scientists have officially labeled July as the hottest month on record in world history.
Copernicus Climate Change Service, a division of the European Union’s space program, announced Tuesday that July’s global average temperature was about 62.51 degrees Fahrenheit. This broke the previous monthly record of about 61.93 degrees Fahrenheit — set in July 2019.
“Record-breaking temperatures are part of the trend of drastic increases in global temperatures. Anthropogenic emissions are ultimately the main driver of these rising temperatures,” Copernicus Climate Change Service Director Carlo Buontempo said in a statement.
“July’s record is unlikely to remain isolated this year, [Copernicus Climate Change Service’s] seasonal forecasts indicate that over land areas temperatures are likely to be well above average,” he added.

“..scientists have officially labeled July as the hottest month on record in world history.”
Seriously? Do ‘journalists’ even research the crap they write anymore?
“Modern human civilization, with its permanent agriculture and settlements, has developed over just the past 10,000 years or so. The period has generally been one of low temperatures and relative global (if not regional) climate stability. Compared to most of Earth’s history, today is unusually cold;”

or 1979?
By the way, didn’t I read that NOAA quietly changed the way that they were measuring earth’s temperature? Instead of measuring at 2.0 meters above the earth, they are now measuring at 0.0 meters. One might think that measuring dirt and concrete might result in a little warmer measurements than the air temperature.
Now, with the official data in, the scientists have officially determined that July 2023 was the hottest month dating back to at least 1940.
...because they don't have data from 1939...

State run scientists funded by the deep state.
NASA says- “Because of the Tonga volcano.” Believe the science.
“ 2023 was the hottest month dating back to at least 1940.”
Very interesting. They know that the 1930’s were a time of severe drought and heat wave over many years. The central US was a dust bowl forcing many thousands to flee for the west coast and other wetter environments. My grandparents got married in 1935 and suffered through that rough time in Central Texas. No electricity, no indoor plumbing, no such thing as AC.
Repeat 2018
It’s not the temperature, it’s who takes the temperature.
smashed the old record by a shattering half of a degree Fahrenheit...
hottest ever according to a rounding error.
Not here in NH.
Somebody posted an excellent article about an undersea volcanic eruption in last 2022 (IIRC) that is the most likely cause of increased temperatures this summer. No link to climate change except mother nature.
I don’t know if this is true but I do know that endless massive forest fires (set by arson) do cause climate change.
This is the most mild summer I can recall living in San Jose, CA.
We had mid 70’s for a decent chunk of July.
ZERO explanation about where these numbers come from and how they were measured.
No verifiable source?
Therefore - no record high temps!
Also, long term temps are NOT measured day by day, or even month by month. There are far too many anomalies.
Instead, long term temps are measured by a monthly average, which is then compared to a 30 year monthly temperature average.
The deviation from the 30 year monthly average is then used to plot temperature trends - up, down, or flat.
The global temperature average only goes back to 1979, which is when satellite measurements began.
July 2023 was a very hot month, but only when compared to the last 40 years.
Finally, the article does not even mention the Tonga undersea volcanic explosion.
Tonga was the most powerful explosion on Earth since Krakatoa exploded 140 years ago.
The thermal energy that was blasted into the Pacific Ocean and the atmosphere was huge.
The amount of water vapor - the most powerful greenhouse gas - blasted into the stratosphere was the largest ever measured.
We have no idea how much of this recent heat is related to Tonga.
How old are the records? 1880?
Global average temperatures could not be measured with any meaningful accuracy until satellite temps began in 1979.
And, it took another 10 years before we had a completely reliable system of ocean buoys plus temperature balloons that verify the satellite temps.
It’s been pretty mild this year in W Washington State.
Summer time gets hot in places.
If the scientist insists he’s a scientist then it must be true. /s
Water vapor from that underwater volcano last year.
